In order to improve real-world firearm accessibility primarily in-vehicle and also 'dismounted,' I seek to acquire a decent quality, maybe even leather, shoulder holster rig for my full frame SIG p220. I also want it to have the 2-mag pouch on the other side for well, extra mags AND to balance the weight of a loaded P220, which is non-trivial. It needs to have the straps that secure the rig to one's belt, as I have tried other holsters without them that just don't work for my heavy SIGs. They do work just fine for my much smaller XDS. I...

At least 15 roaming horses were fatally shot at a Kentucky strip mine site, authorities said, describing it as a "battlefield for just horses." The horses were found along U.S. 23 near the Floyd-Pike County line, WYMT-TV reported Tuesday. Some were as young as a year and others were pregnant, authorities said. “This is very inhumane and it's a very cruel act of somebody who just apparently had nothing else to do or whatever just to go back on a strip job and shoot down horses who were, one of them obviously was feeding, had grass in its mouth,” Floyd...

A look at the pluses and minuses of off-body and on-body techniques Like most men in law enforcement, I have little or no fashion sense. My closet contains clothes in “earth tones” (brown, green, black and tan), along with the occasional blue (jeans) and white (T-shirts). I dress as if I'm preparing for some sort of tactical event, where the ability to camouflage myself is the key to survival. A 115-pound female isn’t going to be able to conceal an M1911A1 on her person, regardless of whether it is carried inside or outside the waistband. However, she can generally hide...

Like a good American dad, my holster broke on me today while sliding down the slide at the public park with my daughter...

Northern Tool and Equipment Company has started to include firearms accessories in its product line. The company is noted for manufacturing products and tools that are less expensive than most competitors. Many of the products are produced overseas in China, but other sources are also used. Northern Tools also manufactures many products in the United States. From al.com: The company builds a lot of its products at a 250,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Faribault, Minn. The Hoover store includes a service center for product repairs. It is interesting to see that Northern Tool is expanding its line into utilitarian gun...

I have always used a belly bag for concealed carry, but I am thinking about leather holsters now. Input sought.

A friend sent me a link to this site and I liked what I saw. The site is dedicated primarily to female shooters, but the articles are well written and worthy of anyone's time. Kathy Jackson deals primarily with new shooters and people new to the idea that they might one day have to use deadly force to protect themself or their family. Although I've been around this stuff for a long time, I read many of the articles and even found a couple of things I didn't know on some of the n00b pages. It's definitely worth your time....

Free Republic Gun Club – Concealed Means Concealed You finally have your CCW permit. Now what? You’ve qualified, shot the course of fire, did all the paperwork, made the conscious decision to protect yourself. Now what? Holsters. The one mistake I see novice CCW permit holders make is the ‘hand-check. They consciously keep reaching for where the gun is in its holster. It’s a dead giveaway. I have more than once walked up to a permit holder and ask them why they keep checking to see if the gun is still there. If it’s in a secure holster and you’ve done...

More than a dozen Miami University students will take part in national protest this week. OXFORD — A group of Miami University students will strap on empty holsters today to oppose gun-control laws. The students are joining a national protest this week of students who say laws banning licensed concealed carried weapons on campuses should be repealed. Stephen Feltoon, a senior psychology student at Miami, said he expects about 15 Miami students to join more than 500 from a hundred colleges nationwide. "We're not expecting overnight change," Feltoon said. "We want students to come up and ask 'Hey, what's with...

Hello! Yesterday, I purchased a firearm for personal safety. I'm a lady and tried out at a few different pistols, but finally decided on the Kahr CW9. My better half went with me and made sure I got a good price and all required accessories. He's an experienced gun owner (he mainly carries his P228) and will help me get familiar with and break-in my new pistol. Anyhow, my dilemma is with conceal/carry options. I am applying for my carry permit next week. Are there any recommendations for non-bulky conceal/carry items for women? Purses and bags are OK as long...

Sorry for the vanity, but I need some input from my peeps in the FR 'hood. I run a company that provides temporary labor, (a kind of "labor hall") and a lot of the laborers that are in and out of the place are druggies, gang-bangers, ex-offenders, etc., and well, uhm...I really think it'd be best if they don't know I'm carrying. If they do find out, I want it to be the biggest surprise they ever got. I mostly wear my shirts tucked in and I haven't found a "waistband" holster that's practical for how I work and where...

Hi all, My darling wife, bless her heart, with her bonus, bought me a Kel-Tec P11 this afternoon. I was surprised, to say the least. Quite small and lightweight. Trying it out Saturday. Now, a few questions. 1) I am 5' 8", and stocky. Any recomendations for a concealed holster? Preferably a "belly" type. There seem to be hundreds to choose from. I generally go around in shorts and a t-shirt probably nine or so months out of the year. 2) Is there a general rule regarding storage and heat? I know in my ARMY days our ammo cans would...
