Former NAACP president and current Maryland gubernatorial candidate Ben Jealous is demanding that television stations stop airing a commercial from his political opponent. “Evidence to the controversy” An attorney representing the Ben Jealous campaign sent a letter to four television stations telling them to pull down a political ad from incumbent Governor Larry Hogan. “The Republican Governor’s Association in this advertisement uses selective editing techniques to make the false claim that Mr. Jealous is a socialist, despite clear and repeated evidence to the controversy,” wrote James Temple Jr., which likely meant to say “evidence to the contrary.” Former NAACP president...

Neal Simon, chief executive officer of a Rockville-based asset management firm, has filed more than 12,000 signatures to get on the November ballot as an “unaffiliated”—independent—candidate for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Democrat Ben Cardin. Maryland requires at least 10,000 signatures for a statewide independent candidate; Simon’s Thursday filing with the State Board of Elections came more than two weeks before the Aug. 6 deadline. Among the names appearing on Simon’s petitions: Republican Gov. Larry Hogan and his running mate, Lt. Gov. Boyd Rutherford. They signed July 18 while Simon and his organization visited the J. Millard Tawes...

Maryland is suing the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for failing to act on a petition requiring power plants in five upwind states to reduce pollution, the state’s attorney general and an official in Gov. Larry Hogan’s administration said Wednesday. The Hogan administration says 70 percent of Maryland’s ozone problem originates in upwind states. Maryland petitioned the EPA in November for a finding that 36 power plant units in Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia are emitting air pollution affecting Maryland in violation of the Clean Air Act’s “good neighbor provision.” In January, the EPA issued a six-month extension to...

Republican Larry Hogan got some good news Friday when the Cook Political Report labeled his gubernatorial race against Democrat Anthony Brown as a toss-up. But polling aggregation site FiveThirtyEight is throwing cold water on Hogan's hopes that today's vote will be tight. In its final forecast for gubernatorial races, FiveThirtyEight projects Brown has a 94 percent chance of defeating Hogan. Based on polling averages, Brown is leading Hogan by 9.8 percent — a number that has increased by 0.1 percent since Monday, according to FiveThirtyEight. Nonetheless, Hogan has been projecting confidence as the campaign winds down, promoting a pro-business agenda....

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R) has received more than $7,000 worth of gifts since he took office in January 2015, mostly modest trinkets and items from well-wishers after the governor made his cancer diagnosis public. The gifts range from a $1 Livestrong bracelet to a $500 membership at Baltimore’s posh members-only Center Club, according to a filing with the State Ethics Commission. Hogan even reported two rosaries blessed at the Vatican, given to him and his wife by Pope Francis in Washington. The disclosure also shows the outpouring of support for the governor after he announced in June that he...

A Florida jury has sided with Hulk Hogan in the lawsuit the former professional wrestler filed against Gawker Media, awarding him $115 million in damages — $15 million more than he sought. Hogan, whose real name is Terry Bollea, sued Gawker in 2012 after the online media outlet published an excerpt of a video showing Bollea having sex with the wife of his then-best friend, Bubba The Love Sponge Clem. Hogan and his attorneys alleged publishing the video was an invasion of his privacy, Gawker argued the clip was newsworthy and protected by the First Amendment. The six-person jury reached...

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan has slashed tolls on the state’s highways, canceled Baltimore’s long-planned Red Line light-rail project and, last week, dramatically announced the closure of the city’s deeply troubled Men’s Detention Center. Hogan, Maryland’s first Republican governor in nearly a decade, did not need the backing of the Democratic-controlled state legislature for any of those decisions. He announced them on his own, deriding inaction by past administrations and acknowledging that he had made little effort to seek Democratic legislative leaders’ input before he acted. The governor’s in-your-face approach contrasts with the pledges of bipartisanship he made after his election...

Hulk Hogan appears to be gone from WWE after all references to him were sensationally removed from their website. As well as his profile in the alumni section, all his merchandise has been pulled from the online store - certainly making it look like his time with the company has come to an end. There are reports that the sudden end to their working relationship is the result of a video or audio of the star on a "racial tirade", although renowned professional wrestling writer Dave Meltzer described it as "a rumour going round". An audio clip has surfaced online...
