I need help from the most intelligent people I know, FReepers. I need to determine what tasks are active on my aging Pentium/Win95 box. Something is consuming an inordinate amount of CPU time. Whatever the task is, it doesn't show up in the Task Manager window (CNTRL, ALT, DEL). I suspect virus activity, because it the slowdowns only occur with internet related programs (Netscape, IE, etc.). Norton, McAffee, and ZoneAlarm all active, caught nothing. My Latitude C800 (Win2k, 1.0 gHz, 256 MB) refuses to boot up. It's able to make it through the first "Dell" screen, and I can access system setup, but immediately after this I get the following message: Invalid BOOT.INI file Booting from C:\winnt\ NTDETECT failed I think these files are still intact, but have been inadvertantly moved around. I can't restore them until Windows loads, though. Any thoughts or solutions? EDIT: I looked arount in the Knowledge Base an found an article ( http://support.dell.com/us/en/kb/document.asp?DN=1022061 ) that described how to make a boot disk. I just recieved this in an e-mail from my nephew."It's 8:12a.m. and we are getting ready to leave to take Vicki to Baptist Hospital. She is having surgery this morning. Okay, I am about ready to throw something at my PC. I got a virus off of an e-mail even though I did not open an attachment and quite frankly, am close to losing it.
