The maker of meatless patties opens a large-scale production facility and plans to pump out 1 million pounds of faux meat every month. It's not easy to sink your teeth into one of Impossible Foods' lab-grown meatless hamburgers. After all, you can only get them at eight US restaurants. On Wednesday, though, the company said it will bring its Impossible Burger to 1,000 eateries by year's end. To make that happen, the firm is opening a factory the size of a city block. The goal is to make at least 1 million pounds of faux burger meat every month. "You...

I first saw Pour Vida’s "Anaheim-style burger taco" in my Instagram feed. Despite sounding like something Taco Bell might have dreamed up, I couldn’t get it out of my head. I had to have it. Pour Vida is chef Jimmy Martinez’ gourmet taco stand in Anaheim. And the picture he posted on Instagram showed a handmade flour tortilla completely glazed with melted yellow cheese, which was then topped with a pan-fried clump of hamburger meat, a flurry of shredded lettuce, some more cheese, a slice of tomato and Thousand Island dressing. It was a work of art. So I went...

Before Coming To America, Winstead's Owner Nabil Haddad Was Baghdad's Burger Tycoon"'In America,' he told me, 'In America, we sell hamburgers.'" But Nabil Haddad didn't have a clue what a hamburger was. It was 1958, and Haddad was looking for a job. Earlier that year, tensions started escalating between Christians and Muslims in Lebanon. Haddad's father sent him to Baghdad, Iraq, for refuge. Seven days after Haddad arrived, the Iraqi Revolution broke out. "There was a lot of killing, dragging colonels and generals in the streets naked ... It was atrocious," Haddad says. Haddad immediately lost the job he had...

Move over, humans. A robot-operated restaurant is heading to the Bay Area. Momentum Machines, a San Francisco-based startup, plans to launch a burger joint where fare is cooked, seasoned and wrapped by robots, Tech Insider reported. The still unnamed restaurant will utilize what Momentum Machines built in 2012 — a machine that could churn out 400 burgers in an hour. The innovative appliance includes a stamper that grinds and stamps custom blends of meat, a vegetable slicer, an oven to toast the meat and bun, and a bagger to wrap the complete product. Images released by the company show the...

(VIDEO-AT-LINK)Pushing pause on that mission to simplify, McDonald's has moved in the other direction and unleashed a whole family of different-size Big Macs. Yesterday, the original size was joined by smaller and larger extremes in two test markets, Dallas and central Ohio. Columbus Business First reports the trio will remain on store menus until June 6, at which point the chain will see how customers reacted. At the more petite end is the new Mac Jr., a single-layer sandwich supposedly designed to be easier to eat, although the menu has six plain, smaller-size burgers already. The largest size has been...

Hamptons (spelled with no apostrophe) was an upscale hamburger joint — perhaps the first one in Southern California. There were in fact two outlets of Hamptons. The original one was on Highland in Hollywood and in the spirit of full disclosure, it should be noted that the proprietor of this site was a part-owner of this one during its last few years of life. The other was out on Riverside Drive in Toluca Lake and it has now been transformed into Mo’s, with some but not all of the old Hamptons menu remaining. Hamptons was famous as the restaurant that...

Arron Hendy and Ruari Barratt were dining at U.K. eatery Burger Off. Each took one bite of the “XXX Hot Chili Burger.” Minutes later, Barratt began suffering from severe stomach pain and soon lost feeling in his hands. His legs also began shaking and his eyes rolled to the back of his head, reports The Argus. The sauce uses a concentrated piri piri chili sauce from India. Gambardella estimated that the sauce measures between seven to nine million units on the Scolville scale. Tabasco sauce comes in around 2,500 – 5,000, while pepper spray ranks 500,000 to five million units.

The Habit Burger and In-N-Out lead the pack. Chick-fil-A also has lots to squawk about. Turns out nobody’s loving it. The standard McDonald’s hamburger — the one that claims to satisfy “billions and billions” — finished dead last in a new Consumer Reports taste test. The Hamburglar’s favorite meal earned a score of just 5.8 out of 10 from the magazine’s readers, putting it far behind West Coast chains The Habit Burger Grill and In-N-Out Burger, which scored 8.1 out of 10 and 8 out of 10, respectively. The top fast food burger available locally was Five Guys Burgers and...

After just one year, some schools around the country are dropping out of the healthier new federal lunch program, complaining that so many students turned up their noses at meals packed with whole grains, fruits and vegetables that the cafeterias were losing money. "Some of the stuff we had to offer, they wouldn't eat," said Catlin, Ill., Superintendent Gary Lewis, whose district saw a 10 to 12 percent drop in lunch sales, translating to $30,000 lost under the program last year. "So you sit there and watch the kids, and you know they're hungry at the end of the day,...

As an actor, Harry Lewis took second billing to the likes of Humphrey Bogart and Edward G. Robinson, most notably in the 1948 film noir "Key Largo." But he found his own starring role as a Los Angeles restaurateur who helped usher in the concept of the "gourmet burger" when he launched the ground-breaking Hamburger Hamlet restaurant chain, among others.

Waitresses at the Heart Attack Grill dress in nurse uniforms to serve up artery-clogging fare, including the Quadruple Bypass Burger seen here You can't say you haven't been warned if you order up a gut busting 8,000-calorie burger meal at the Heart Attack Grill. If the name of the restaurant isn't enough to make your arteries quiver, the Quadruple Bypass Burger should be all the clues you'll need. It contains four half-pound beef patties, cheese and bacon and comes with a milkshake containing the world's 'highest butterfat content' (with an extra pat of butter) and 'Flatliner Fries' that are deep-fried...

When asked for their John Hancock, future generations might print it in block letters or scrawl some scribbles across the page. But odds are, they won't sign their name in cursive. They might not even be able to read it. Cursive, with its graceful loops and perfectly joined letters, seems soon to join the typewriter, VCR player and flip-phone as relics of a past age. Keyboarding skills, not cursive, were included in the Common Core, a set of national academic standards adopted last year by more than 40 states, including Florida.
