A California judge has temporarily halted production of the popular sriracha Asian-style hot sauce after residents of a Los Angeles suburb complained of the factory's odour. The fumes emitted from Huy Fong Foods' factory in Irwindale are "extremely annoying, irritating and offensive to the senses", Judge Robert O'Brien said. He ordered the company to cease any operations that cause the odours. The factory churns 100 million lb (45.4 million kg) of chilli pepper a year. Tear-inducing odours Mr O'Brien ruled Huy Fong Foods must cease any operations that cause tear-inducing odours, but did not specify the types of actions required,...

There is a new piece, however, that doesn’t get discussed much at all. Forced home inspections. Thanks to a South Carolina state bill that passed the house but failed in the Senate we learn of something very, very ugly coming packaged with Obamacare. As Ben Swann reports: “Clearly, any family may be visited by federally paid agents for almost any reason.” According to an Obamacare provision millions of Americans will be targeted. The Health and Human Services’ website states that your family will be targeted if you fall under the “high-risk” categories below: Families where mom is not yet 21....

(CBS News) Would you share your doctor's appointment with a stranger? Some people are, opting for a group visit with their physician. It's a way for patients to get more face-time with their doctor -- sometimes as much as an hour or two -- but the time is shared with other people, Dr. Devi Nampiaparampil, an assistant professor at the New York University School of Medicine, explained on "CBS This Morning." A growing number of physicians are offering the option. Since 2005, according to the American Academy of Family Physicians, the number of physicians offering group visits has doubled. The...

As the UN digs in its ever-sharper, global-grasping claws, there are less and less desirable places to relocate. The New World Order permeates and invades all. Agenda 21? This is how it is done in Australia. Been going on for years... We know a family who live in Sydney’s Parramatta. The oldest girl, now in her 80’s, lives in the family home which was built in the early 1900’s. She was invited to a meeting with Parramatta Council and she and others were told that the Council “could not tolerate” for much longer that there was only one or two...

Chuck and Stephanie Fromm already have been fined $300 for holding Bible studies for their friends at their home, and they face the potential for additional fines of $500 for each study held, according to a legal team taking their case to court. The newest conflict over Bible studies in homes in America arose in San Juan Capistrano, Calif., where city officials say city code section 9-3.301 prohibits religious organizations in residential neighborhoods without a conditional-use permit, a sometimes very expensive procedure. The code cites "churches, temples, synagogues, monasteries, religious retreats, and other places of religious worship and other fraternal...

The federal government has a growing interest in the eating habits of Americans for the same reason it has an interest in tobacco consumption, said Kathleen Sebelius, the secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services. The reason is money, because three-quarters of medical-spending is driven by chronic diseases, such as obesity and tobacco-related diseases, she said. Sebelius’ comments came at the tail-end of Tuesday’s White House press conference where officials showcased nine new photos that must be carried on cigarette packs. Officials used a survey of 18,000 people to find the images that would have the most distressing...

Liberals Outsourcing Morality By Frank Ryan In the Book of Matthew in the New Testament, Pontius Pilate symbolically washes his hands of the responsibility for the crucifixion of Jesus. This symbolism has carried on through the centuries as the mark of someone who is complicit in something yet wishes to distance himself from the appearance of responsibility. The person effectively "washes" away the guilt. In much the same way, 21st-century liberalism uses the tax code to absolve itself of the moral responsibility to truly care for the very citizens they claim to be protecting. The tax code has become the...

First the attack on Planned Parenthood funding and now this: Republican State Rep. Bobby Franklin of Georgia introduced a bill in his state last week that, if enacted, would require proof that a miscarriage occurred naturally. If a woman can’t prove that her miscarriage–or spontaneous abortion–occurred without intervention, she could face felony charges.

I received a mass email from Congresscriminal Pete Stark (D-California) tonight about Obamacare, presumably because I previously sent him a love letter telling him to reject Obamacare. Apparently the dimwit failed to notice that I live thousands of miles away. Here's my snarky reply:

Dear HSLDA Members and Friends: Delegate Daryl Cowles has introduced several bills that would protect families from unreasonable government intrusion into the family. One of these bills, House Bill 4480, provides that prosecuting attorneys have the right and responsibility to represent the public interest in protecting abused and neglected children when their position conflicts with the position of the Department of Health and Human Resources. If passed, this bill would help strengthen the parent-child relationship and protect the right of parents to direct the education and upbringing of their children. However, with only a few days remaining in the session,...

The US Government has invested billions into “job creating” activities. They’ve done a terrible job and have by-far cost us more than the tiny gains we may have made. I’ve noticed everyone running for office has been talking about jobs and job creation and I have yet to see anyone offer actual solutions. I’ve tried to offer some valuable ideas which still hold true but we need to look at the root of the problem because if we don’t, even things like eliminating the corporate income tax won’t bring jobs back. Those of you who I have met on the...

Who in the world knows as much about you and your private thoughts as Google? That's the question Katherine Albrecht, radio talk-show host and spokeswoman for Startpage, a search engine that protects user privacy, is posing to American Internet surfers. "It would blow people's minds if they knew how much information the big search engines have on the American public," she told WND. "In fact, their dossiers are so detailed they would probably be the envy of the KGB." Google exposed in Joseph Farah's "Stop the Presses!" autographed only at WND's online store. It happens every day, Albrecht explained. When...

Klingenschmitt said, "Please call 202-456-1111 today, and tell White House comment line operators: 'Mr. President, please keep your promise and veto the F-35 second engine in the Pentagon Budget, 2010 Defense Authorization Act.'" "Several months ago, President Obama promised to veto the Pentagon budget if it contained funding for the F-22 or a second engine for the F-35. The Senate killed the F-22, but after receiving nearly 22,000 faxes from us in the last 48 hours, the House ignored Obama's veto threat and voted Thursday to fully fund a second engine for F-35s. The House also sadly attached the pro-homosexual...

The federal government is forcing 3 million Americans to disclose sensitive, personal information about finances, health and lifestyle in a 14-page survey – including questions about availability of household flush toilets and difficulty with undressing and bathing. The 2009 American Community Survey, an annual supplement to the decennial Census, asks about residents' personal relationships and whether a home has hot and cold running water, a flush toilet, bathing facilities, appliances and phone services. It also asks how many rooms are in a home and what vehicles are used at each household. The new questionnaire asks respondents what they pay for...

Spare the Rod and Spoil the Child is an axiom that Democratic Assemblywoman Sally Lieber apparently doesn’t recognize. She apparently believes that because spanking “Could Lead to” child abuse, that spanking should be done away with altogether. Let me ask you this Sally, Should every potential ‘gateway’ activity then be made illegal by our government? Should sugar be made illegal because it gives a child a buzz if too much is taken in, which ‘could then lead’ to a desire to experience more intense highs later on? Should alcohol be outlawed because it ‘could lead to’ a desire to use...

Sports are important, as they provide physical exercise and personal camaraderie, but to make a fetish of anything in life is always disastrous. So it is with sports, as we see all too often in these days when Americans have so much time, money, and freedom (all of which are good things, of course, and are great blessings when used properly). The Associated Press reports just such an incident this week: "Upset that his 7-year-old son wouldn't wear a Green Bay Packers jersey during the team's playoff victory Saturday, a man restrained the boy for an hour with tape and...

I posted a while back about the financial and business aspects of CALEA on your local ISP's. Oddly enough, most people thought I was just ignorant. Well, THEY are ignorant. There's an interesting blog thread here: http://blogs.globalcrossing.com/paulk?from=60 He makes a very sharp point. While the original CALEA legislation was little other than requiring (and paying) the telcos to ensure that normal phone taps could occur, the DOJ and FCC have suddenly strayed far beyond that. VIOP was unknown at the time CALEA was written. But, it's been construed by the FCC to apply to all services that carry voice, chat,...

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A quarter century after the Reagan revolution and a dozen years after Republicans vaulted into control of Congress, a new CNN poll finds most Americans still agree with the bedrock conservative premise that, as the Gipper put it, "government is not the answer to our problems -- government is the problem."The poll released Friday also showed that an overwhelming majority of Americans perceive, correctly, that the size and cost of government have gone up in the past four years, when Republicans have had a grip on the House of Representatives, the Senate and the White House.Discretionary spending...

NEW YORK (Reuters) - New York City's Health Department on Tuesday proposed a near ban on the use of artificial trans fat at restaurants, likening its health danger to that of lead paint. The proposal would limit the use of the artery-clogging fat, which is often used in fast foods, to 0.5 grams per serving. The proposal comes after a year-long city campaign to educate restaurants on the effects of such fats and encourage them to stop their use. The city said the voluntary campaign failed and while some of New York's more than 20,000 restaurants reduced or stopped using...

The caretakers of Ernest Hemingway's Key West home want a federal judge to intervene in their dispute with the U.S. Department of Agriculture over the six-toed cats that roam the property. More than 50 descendants of a multi-toed cat the novelist received as a gift in 1935 wander the grounds of the home, where Hemingway lived for more than 10 years. The Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum disputes the USDA's claim that it is an "exhibitor" of cats and needs to have a USDA Animal Welfare License, according to a complaint filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Miami. "What...
