The Mizzou protest has sparked a lot of controversy all across the country even right here in our own backyard, this time in Statesboro, Georgia. If you’ve missed what’s been happening at Missouri University here’s a brief timeline: September 12, 2015 – Student government complained about the bigotry and anti-gay sentiment which gained national attention. October 4th, 2015 – Caucasian student removed from an event strictly for black students and uttered, “these niggers are getting aggressive with me” while being removed. November 3rd, 2015 – Student Jonathan Butler vowed not to eat until the president of the school resigned. November...

IN MEMORY OF JOACHIM FEST The Proud Loner By Matthias Matussek Joachim Fest has died. The author of a best-selling biography of Adolf Hitler and former editor of the conservative daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung has left an impressive life's work - one of the most important to be produced in Germany since 1945. Fest's memoirs "Not Me" are a masterpiece. They tell the story of a family that refused to bow to the pressures of history and society. Now he has lost his battle against illness after all. Joachim Fest had to muster the last of his strength to complete...

Germans are (sic) occupied in a search for the most beautiful word in the language during the second half of the year. The competition organized by the German language council and the Goethe Institute was designed to jazz up the dull image of the German language as being too dry, difficult and impossible to learn. People from around the world are asked to submit their favorite word and justify their choice. Habseligkeiten, which means ”belongings,” is selected as the most beautiful word in German. The submission comes from Doris Kalka who says the word has less to do with property...

More than 70 percent of Germans side with the German government on the Iraq question, and many believe a government should execute the will of the people if it is articulated this clearly. Isn't the alignment of the will of government and people the democratic ideal? If this were so, why haven't opinion researchers replaced politicians? With today's means of communication, one could easily organize weekly or even daily votes and pass on the resulting majority views as administrative directives. Obstinate parliamentarians would be replaced by (elected) trustees watching over the evaluation of surveys. Would this be a better democracy?...
