PORTLAND, Ore. — Two employees of a bakery in Portland, Oregon were fired earlier this month for denying a black woman service because the business had closed. "Back To Eden Bakery" released several public apologies and statements following the incident, before letting the employees go. In one Facebook post, the bakery's co-owner wrote, "We are doing business in a gentrified neighborhood in a racist city within a racist state of a racist country.” In one statement, "Back To Eden Bakery" says that according to its own surveillance video, a black woman named "Lillian", who is well known in the area...

The left is fond of trying to tie unrelated issues to gender, race, or sexual orientation. A recent example is Trump's description of some countries as "sh*tholes." His comment was considered racist even though everyone knows there are many nations where no one wants to live, or even visit. In this case, scoring the president for even daring to mention some nations are better than others set off a firestorm of false criticism. So, it shouldn't surprise us that the NAACP has taken two entirely different issues and has twisted logic into a pretzel in order to connect them....

Imagine if behind every little thug, there were larger, stronger thugs ready to defend those little thugs against criticism or correction. In this situation, thuggery would always grow, and all defense against it would be futile, until at last most people would just give up and either join the thugs or hide quietly in their corners all their lives. A Facebook page that made it appear the Apollo Milling Co. promoted racism against blacks shopping at the North Apollo animal supply store has sparked a lawsuit by the owner of the business founded in 1849. “I was dumbfounded,” owner Dennis Reefer said about the page he contends was created in October by a member of the United Steelworkers of America Local 1196 because Reefer refused to publicly support the group during its bitter labor dispute with Allegheny Technologies Inc. Three SUNY Albany students who claimed they were victims of a racially motivated attack on a city bus might face charges themselves after surveillance footage apparently debunked their story.... The three students, who are all black women, initially said up to a dozen white classmates spewed racial insults and ganged up on them. But the video, which has not been released to the public, shows one of the alleged victims throwing the first punch, as well as one alleged victim using a slur against a white passenger...the footage shows no evidence of racism directed at the students.

ON first watching Hillary Clinton’s recent “It’s 3 a.m.” advertisement, I was left with an uneasy feeling that something was not quite right — something that went beyond my disappointment that she had decided to go negative. Repeated watching of the ad on YouTube increased my unease. I realized that I had only too often in my study of America’s racial history seen images much like these, and the sentiments to which they allude.
