Proving that communism has worked no better for students at a University of California-San Diego cooperative living space than it did for the billions of citizens of the Soviet Union and the People’s Republic of China, the aptly-named “Che Cafe” is quickly running out of cash. In the cleverly titled article, “In the Red,” The UCSD Guardian noted that the Che Cafe–a student-run co-op named after mass-murdering dictator Che Guevara and governed by the communist philosophy–has become a “money pit consistently plagued with safety issues.”

“Privilege” is a word that’s been tossed around a lot lately. But if you’re wondering about its origin, look no further than Peggy McIntosh, a women’s studies scholar at Wellesley College. Before Princeton freshman Tal Fortgang “Checked His Privilege” at the suggestion of his university professors, McIntosh wrote a paper in 1988 entitled “White Privilege and Male Privilege: A Personal Account of Coming to See Correspondences Through Work in Women’s Studies.”

We've spent a lot of time across the pond visiting family and fully understand the U.K. and the U.S. are two countries, as they say, "separated by a common language." OK, so the US seems to be losing in Syria and in Ukraine. And not doing too well at curbing Iran’s nuclear program. Nor is it bringing peace to the Israelis and Palestinians. And the economy doesn’t look too good, either. But in the Alternate Green Universe, those issues aren’t important. What really matters, as we learned in the Washington Post the other day, is climate change. And on that front, the President has indeed been active.

Responding to a complaint from the Congressional Black Caucus, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel on Tuesday ordered the military services to review their grooming standards for African-American women. Hagel told the CBC that he has given the services 30 days to “review the definitions of authorized and prohibited hairstyles contained in each of their respective policies and revise any offensive language.”

Colorado and Washington are the first states to legalize recreational marijuana. In my state of Colorado, Amendment 64 was passed by 55 percent of voters by ballot referendum last year and took effect on January 1 of this year. State government officials are giddy with the prospects of increased revenue from marijuana sales. Marijuana tourism is booming in Colorado, giving new meaning to “Rocky Mountain High.” Now, four months into this new experiment, it may be worth looking at some of the unintended consequences.

Presidents have been known for slogans that came to symbolize their agendas. There were the New Deal, Great Society, and New Frontier presidents. There was the president who spoke softly but carried a big stick. Then there is the president who should be known from now on as the “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” president: Barack Obama.

“It isn’t gun control.” – Michael Bloomberg, former mayor of New York City Recently, former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg promoted his new $50 million gun control campaign on NBC’s “Today” show, in an aggressive financial push to combat the National Rifle Association’s influence on gun policies. Bloomberg stated that he plans to use the money to merge his Mayors Against Illegal Guns (criminals will always have guns) and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America into a new group called “Every Town for Gun Safety.”

That was the Morning Joe host's advice today to people in Topeka, Kansas who are concerned that First Lady Michelle Obama's visit to the city's joint high school graduation ceremony will limit seating for family members and take the spotlight off the graduates themselves. The man who makes his living offering his opinions and expressing his concerns instructed Kansans to "keep those concerns to yourself."
