DENHAM SPRINGS — A sheriff’s K-9 bitten by a chained pit bull as the police dog was pursuing a burglary suspect is recovering well, officials with the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday. As the K-9, Gunner, latched onto the suspect, a chained pit bull grabbed Gunner by the hind leg, Chief Deputy Jason Ard said. The suspect escaped, leaving Gunner’s handler and the pit bull’s owner to use force to free Gunner from the pit bull’s jaws, Ard said.
