WASHINGTON (AP) -- Congressional Democrats have decided to push a specific timeline for the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq.

Senate Republicans who earlier this week helped block deliberations on a resolution opposing President Bush's new troop deployments in Iraq changed course yesterday and vowed to use every tactic at their disposal to ensure a full and open debate. In a letter distributed yesterday evening to Senate leaders, John W. Warner (Va.), Chuck Hagel (Neb.) and five other GOP supporters of the resolution threatened to attach their measure to any bill sent to the floor in the coming weeks. Noting that the war is the "most pressing issue of our time," the senators declared: "We will explore all of our...

Angered by the Iraq war and new violence in Gaza, some Arabs reacted harshly Wednesday to the drubbing of President Bush's party, saying the Republicans paid for failed U.S. policies across the Middle East. In Israel, on the other hand, some analysts worried that political infighting between Democrats and Republicans in the run-up to the 2008 presidential election might distract the Americans from looming crises in the Middle East, chief among them the prospect of a nuclear Iran. "Israelis perceive the Iranian threat as imminent," said Prof. Menahem Blondheim of Hebrew University. "Without political support at home and in his...

"And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity." (Matthew 7:23) The midterm election was not a mere changing of the "good sentinel, vigilant guards," to a far superior one that would have completed a mission with honor in Iraq. Unfortunately, it's quite the opposite. The Democrats will hand both America and the Iraqi people a dastardly defeat that will hurt our integrity and our safety for decades to come. I guess it wasn't impressed upon enough people (or strongly enough) that today's Democrats are not objective thinkers. They are ideologues....

Some priorities set by Democrats in Congress: Military: Force an immediate drawdown of troops in Iraq and conduct oversight hearings on missteps on the war. Intelligence: Increase attention given to emerging terrorist threats in Africa and Southeast Asia and devote more resources to North Korea and Iran. More oversight of terrorism and government surveillance. Homeland security: Boost security for rail and mass transit systems. Tougher oversight of the Department of Homeland Security, potential restructuring of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Judiciary: Conduct oversight hearings on treatment of terrorism detainees, domestic surveillance programs and President Bush's use of "signing statements" affecting...

We'll see nancy Pelosi she truly reaches out to Bush and other Republicans in a bipartisan spirit, or if they continue on with their divisive partisan rhetoric. We'll see if Nancy Pelosi "drains the swamp" as she puts it. Will this "draining" include Democrats Harry Reid, Jefferson, and Menendez? Scandals have loomed around them. Jefferson and his $90,000 stashed in a freezer found during an FBI raid. Harry Reid and the land deal and Christmas bonuses flaps. Yeah, we'll see. We'll see if Nancy Pelosi and the Dems keep to a centrist and moderately conservative agenda (like they said they...

Folks, one thing needs to be considered with the election results. Tonight was a loss for Republicans, not conservatism. Look at the emminent domain ballot measures; they are winning all over the country. Look at the democrats that are being put up: many are progun/prolife. They were put up there as a candidate that people could actually vote for because they are not far left candidates. Even if these dems do fall to the far left with their party, it doesn't change the fact that the country is voting with a foundation in many conservative beliefs. Just a thought.

A Democrat won the Ohio governorship for the first time since 1986 as Rep. Ted Strickland easily defeated Republican Ken Blackwell in one of 36 races for states' top elected office. With 10 new governors guaranteed to come out of Tuesday's elections, state governments were in for their biggest shake-up in years _ one that had a chance of being even more tumultuous if Democrats managed to reverse years of Republican dominance. Strickland's win in Ohio was based on a statistical analysis of the vote from voter interviews conducted for The Associated Press by Edison Media Research and Mitofsky International....
