WH Press Sec: WH looking at surge in COVID numbers Trying to parse the difference between polls and Trump's approval rating The Hill logoHypocrisy on the high court: 'Textualists' and the Tenth Amendment Chief Justice John Roberts's majority decision in Shelby County v. Holder (2013) eviscerated a crucial provision of the landmark Voting Rights Act of 1965 that required pre-clearance by the federal Department of Justice for changes in voting in state and local governmental units which had a pattern of past discrimination. The decision flew in the face of the Court's precedents. Its laissez faire attitude has triggered huge...

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has vetoed bills that would have made it a felony to apply for multiple absentee ballots or fill out an application for others without their consent. Voter fraud is already a crime, the Democrat said, and the Republican-backed legislation would “muddy the waters” and “likely confuse voters” about what is considered criminal. In a letter to lawmakers Friday, the governor said it is impossible to get a second ballot without spoiling the first one and pointed out that voters might submit multiple ballot applications due to memory or error.

Amazon Studios released “All In: The Fight for Democracy” on Prime Video on Sept. 18. It’s directed by Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning filmmakers Garbus and Cortés and focuses on Stacey Abrams, who ran as the Democratic Party’s nominee in the 2018 gubernatorial election in Georgia and was the first Black woman to be a major-party gubernatorial nominee in the United States. She narrowly lost to Republican Brian Kemp, who was accused by Abrams of voter suppression activities after he refused to resign as secretary of state while campaigning for governor. The campaign for “All In” is targeting voter registration and education...

President Donald Trump on Friday described former Vice President Joe Biden and his family as an “organized crime family.â€The president referred to recent reports featuring Biden son Hunter Biden pursuing lucrative foreign deals with not only the Ukrainian Energy company Burisma, but also corporate interests in China.“I tell you what, it’s an organized crime family as far as I’m concerned,†Trump said during an event with seniors in Florida. On Thursday, Trump also detailed new reports in the New York Post revealing emails from Hunter Biden to corporate interests in China, pursuing a $10 million salary for “introductions alone†and a “MUCH MORE LASTING AND LUCRATIVE ARRANGEMENT,†which he referred to as...

Sen. Ben Sasse, R-Neb., ripped President Trump in a phone call with constituents, saying the commander-in-chief "kisses dictators' butts," "sells out our allies," mistreats women and "spends like a drunken sailor." “What the heck were any of us thinking that selling a TV-obsessed narcissistic individual to the American people was a good idea? It is not a good idea," Sasse said in a recent telephone town hall with his constituents. "I think we are staring down the barrel of a blue tsunami and we’ve got to hold the Senate and that’s what I’m focused on.” Sasse's nine-minute diatribe against Trump...

All eyes are turning to NBC News White House correspondent Kristen Welker as she prepares to host the third and final presidential debate Thursday. President Trump and Joe Biden will square off at Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn., in a 90-minute debate starting at 9 p.m. Welker, 44, has been the White House correspondent at NBC News since 2011, after working as a news reporter in Rhode Island. Welker comes from an established Democratic family — who have poured cash into party coffers, and to Trump opponents, for years. Her mother, Julie Welker, a prominent real estate broker in Philadelphia,...

A New York tabloid’s puzzling account about how it acquired emails purportedly from Joe Biden’s son has raised some red flags. One of the biggest involves the source of the emails: Rudy Giuliani. Giuliani has traveled abroad looking for dirt on the Bidens, developing relationships with shadowy figures, including a Ukrainian lawmaker who U.S. officials have described as a Russian agent and part of a broader Russian effort to denigrate the Democratic presidential nominee. Yet Giuliani says foreign sources didn’t provide the Hunter Biden emails. He says a laptop containing the emails and intimate photos was simply abandoned in a...

Savannah Guthrie did more than just display her journalistic chops at NBC News’ town hall with President Donald Trump. She changed the subject for her bosses. NBC was reeling heading into Thursday’s event, under widespread criticism for scheduling it at the same time as ABC’s town hall with Democratic opponent Joe Biden. NBC was accused of rewarding Trump for rejecting the debate commission’s plan to do the second debate virtually. That was quickly forgotten when the president sat opposite Guthrie, who questioned him specifically on when he last tested positive for COVID-19 (he said he didn’t remember), whether he had...

This will be a weekly post. Count remains at 218 judges confirmed. 2 Trade Court judges 163 District Court judges 53 Circuit Court judges 2 Supreme Court justices Senate floor activity has been shut down so no confirmations. This week the Senate Judiciary Committee held hearings on Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett. She fielded all questions brilliantly and is on her way to confirmation (as an aside "Catholic Gets Confirmed" would be a good headline!) Chairman Graham has set the committee vote for next Thursday the 22nd. Under the rules any senator can delay a vote for a week...

The University of Minnesota’s School of Social Work and Continuing Education Series recently hosted what they called a Special Webinar Series that was titled, “Deconstructing & Decentralizing White-ness in Practice: A Three-Part Series,” in which a lecture titled “Recovery from White Conditioning” taught white people how to use a “12-step” program similar to Alcoholics Anonymous to “recover and reclaim our full humanity.” Therapist Cristina Combs, who created the program, spent “years of struggling to navigate the role and presence of whiteness in her personal, academic, and professional journeys,” the website for the series claims. “Combs began the lecture by acknowledging...

After the chaos of the first two presidential debates—including the absence of an actual second debate—the Biden-Trump face-off series will finally conclude on Thursday, Oct. 22, at Nashville's Belmont University at 9 p.m. ET. The third debate (or, if we're being literal, the second) will see Joe Biden and Donald Trump step up to their lecterns one last time to outline their plans to help the American people and shout nonsense over their opponent, respectively. After the chaos of the first two presidential debates—including the absence of an actual second debate—the Biden-Trump face-off series will finally conclude on Thursday, Oct....

The New York Post's breaking news of emails purporting to show Hunter Biden scheming to make money off the family name has created a social media firestorm. Twitter began blocking users from sharing it almost instantly. Facebook didn't block the story outright, but they did announce almost immediately that they were "reducing its distribution on our platform." Even for the most sober observer, it sure seems like the social media platforms are interfering with the free flow of information relevant to our election. This is all the more so when you consider that stories critical of President Donald Trump, such...

Former Gov. John Kasich (R-OH) said Thursday night on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” that President Donald Trump’s concerns about large scale mail-in voting were “just a big joke.” Kasich said, “When these results are in, we will have as many, you know, maybe as much as 20% of the public saying that the election was not legitimate. If you have a situation like that and people don’t legitimize the election, that is a very dangerous road we go down.

Mark Kelly campaign spokesman T.J. L’Heureux is apologizing for calling police “worthless f****** pigs” in August 2020, the Washington Times reported. L’Heureux hurled the insult after watching “Chicago police clashing with protesters,” the Times reported. The insult was made in an August 17, 2020, tweet, which L’Heureux has since deleted but which the Washington Free Beacon published. “Chicago Police you worthless f****** pigs,” L’Heureux’s tweet read. L’Heureux joined Kelly’s campaign about a week after sending the text. “I deeply regret my comment and apologize for what I wrote — I was wrong,” L’Heureux told the Arizona Republic. “My comment does...

It’s Big Tech’s Big Censorship Week! First Twitter and Facebook just decided to simply block NY Post’s damning Hunter Biden story from being shared on social media so that voters couldn’t be swayed. Now Amazon seems to be doing the same with a documentary about the Michael Brown story that presents the facts of the case, rather than push the manufactured agenda that Brown was the victim of America’s systemic racism. Amazon Prime has refused to publish the film in its streaming library, although it hosts plenty of movies and documentaries about bunk political theories. What Killed Michael Brown? filmmaker...

Why has Marc Elias, the Democratic National Committee’s election lawyer, filed more than 50 lawsuits around the country challenging state election laws in advance of next month’s presidential election? Elias says he’s fighting against “voter suppression.” But most of the state laws he’s challenging have been in place for years — including when he was the legal adviser to the John Kerry and Hillary Clinton presidential campaigns. Why is Elias suddenly asking courts to overrule state election laws and count ballots that come in after Election Day, or force states to have unattended ballot collection boxes? Someone who knows Elias...
