No Judges Confirmed This Week

Posted on 10/17/2020 2:04:06 AM PDT by cotton1706

This will be a weekly post.

Count remains at 218 judges confirmed.

2 Trade Court judges

163 District Court judges

53 Circuit Court judges

2 Supreme Court justices

Senate floor activity has been shut down so no confirmations.

This week the Senate Judiciary Committee held hearings on Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett. She fielded all questions brilliantly and is on her way to confirmation (as an aside "Catholic Gets Confirmed" would be a good headline!)

Chairman Graham has set the committee vote for next Thursday the 22nd. Under the rules any senator can delay a vote for a week (and the democrats have always done this) but Graham may have already baked this in somehow.

McConnell has already said the full Senate will begin its work on Barrett's confirmation on Friday the 23rd. So a Senate confirmation vote is expected the following week.

Also, once Barrett is confirmed it opens up a vacancy on the 7th Circuit. Should Trump get a judge confirmed to that post it will be his 54th Circuit judge (Obama had 55 over eight years).

Election is now only two weeks away.

Remain buckled till it's over!

Committee vote on Th, 10/22. But can be delayed a week so figure Th, 10/29. Then Senate vote on Fr, 10/30? That’s making it awfully close to election day, little room for error, etc.

Question: what is linda planning to do Mo, 10/19 through We, 10/21? Why can’t the committee vote be Mo, 10/19?

Senate democrats plan to boycott the committee meeting on 10/22 so that Graham will not have a quorum. Then McConnell plans to take it up in the full Senate without a committee recommendation.

He’ll need 51 Senators present for a quorum, to move forward.
