In the summer of 2014, I gave birth to a baby boy. He was born with a perfect Apgar score, after a very easy delivery. But my labor had not been smooth—in fact, throughout the day and a half of contractions, I believed there was something decidedly wrong. I also felt that way as I held him for the first time, and he writhed violently under my hands. In a video taken about 10 minutes after he was born, he can be seen lifting his head up off my chest. “Ooooh, look at how advanced he is!” someone can be...

An unpatched zero-day in Microsoft Windows 10 (and prior) allows attackers to corrupt an NTFS-formatted hard drive with a one-line command. In multiple tests by BleepingComputer, this one-liner can be delivered hidden inside a Windows shortcut file, a ZIP archive, batch files, or various other vectors to trigger hard drive errors that corrupt the filesystem index instantly. "Critically underestimated" NTFS vulnerability In August 2020, October 2020, and finally this week, infosec researcher Jonas L drew attention to an NTFS vulnerability impacting Windows 10 that has not been fixed. When exploited, this vulnerability can be triggered by a single-line command to...

I used to visit this forum years ago and I recently felt impressed that I should come back and share some info. I am a software engineer by trade. I write code. I've worked for many big tech companies over the years. Last year I worked for a well known big tech company on a year long contract. I worked on the software that searches all social media platforms and collects the data on you. Facebook, Twitter, et all, have back doors called APIs that allow authorized entities to request data. And that data is then packed up and sent...

Torrent search engine is still up after years of whack-a-mole with copyright copsOne of the co-creators of notorious BitTorrent search engine The Pirate Bay has criticised free speech social network Parler for the lack of resilience that saw it go dark after Amazon Web Services booted it out of its cloud. Peter Sunde Kolmisoppi took to Twitter to offer his opinions. The Pirate Bay linked to vast quantities of copyrighted material that was available without payment. Big Content therefore hated the site and authorities regularly cancelled its domains or sued its operators. Swedish police raided its data centre and hauled...

I had recommended DuckDuckGo to my friend as a better search engine because supposedly it did not track you like Google did. But now I find out that DDG depends on an Amazon platform or something, and that it DOES store some of your information. Is there a better search engine that truly does not track you? I will relay any info garnered here to my friend, and possibly incorporate it myself. Thanks.

What’s the point of bothering, and spending all that money, if everything goes to hell in a handbasket? Well, for one thing, we’re not in the handbasket yet. And becoming a part of the local amateur community is a good thing – you’ll create friendships and alliances, learn more about the hobby from those who have been there and done that, and even be able to assist your community if the shit really hits the fan in a non-political sense.

Uganda shut down all social media in the country Tuesday after the country’s longtime leader accused Facebook of taking sides in the upcoming presidential election on Thursday. President Yoweri Museveni, 76, apologized for the inconvenience caused by the ban, but said Uganda had no choice after Facebook removed several accounts tied to his re-election campaign. ew York (CNN)Amazon said it is banning QAnon merchandise from its marketplace in response to the extremist group's role in attacking the US Capitol. The company is in the process of removing QAnon products, but said it may take a few days to complete. QAnon, the far-right conspiracy theory group whose believers view President Donald Trump as a hero fighting a "deep state" run by a cabal of satanic pedophiles, played a central role in the January 6 siege. In the past week, tech companies have sought to remove the group and its members from social media and other platforms.
