While not directly naming the candidate, President Obama made it clear just what he thinks about Donald Trump's campaign and policy proposals in a highly political commencement speech Sunday at Rutgers University. The president said he would skip giving students the usual commencement banter, and instead run down a list of "suggestions" that turned out to be a stern and direct indictment of everything Trump has built his campaign on. First, Obama took on Trump's "Make America Great Again" campaign slogan, telling students, "When you hear someone longing for the good old days, take it with a grain of salt."...

Humility from a politician is more easy to come by from those on the Right, but you can completely forget about it from anyone who sides with the Left. Am I wrong? Obama, Reid, Pelosi, are they humble? Exactly. The one person who has taken a beating more than any individual on the planet for the past 15 years or so chooses a different path. Even during his time in office, President George W. Bush recognized that he wasn’t the most eloquent speaker who ever resided at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., but the fact remains that the guy is not one...

Saturday at Cumberland University This past Saturday, Hazel and myself were honored to receive an award at the commencement exercises at Cumberland University, a small school a few miles from our home in Lebanon, Tennessee, and I was asked to say a few words to the graduating class which I found to be respectful, attentive and appreciative. As I feel that the remarks contain much of my philosophy toward professionalism and our nation, I would like to share them with any high school or college graduates who happen to be reading this column and also with my regular readers, in...

This is the text of the Commencement address by Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple Computer and of Pixar Animation Studios, delivered on June 12, 2005. I am honored to be with you today at your commencement from one of the finest universities in the world. I never graduated from college. Truth be told, this is the closest I've ever gotten to a college graduation. Today I want to tell you three stories from my life. That's it. No big deal. Just three stories. The first story is about connecting the dots. I dropped out of Reed College after the first...

WILKES-BARRE -- In a commencement speech Saturday to the graduating class of Wilkes University, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. sought to link environmental threats to threats to democracy. In the speech before a crowd of approximately 3,500, the architect of the New York City Watershed Agreement, environmental lawyer and environmental author, spoke critically of the Bush administration. Kennedy said the administration promoted 400 major environmental rollbacks during its last term to deliberately “eviscerate” 30 years of environmental law. The Bush administration’s policies allow coal burning power plants to continue to burn coal, which causes increased instances of asthma and high levels...

And that’s what they got. But many in the crowd were offended, even outraged. The commencement speaker was Francis Cardinal Arinze, the head of the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue. The dean who invited Arinze expected him to speak about the relationship between...
