An 11-year-old and a 12-year-old student in Colorado were temporarily suspended from school after they were spotted with an Airsoft gun and a toy gun, respectively, during their online lessons. Story 1: 11-year-old Maddox Blow, who goes to Bell Middle School in Golden, Colorado, told the FOX31 Problem Solvers that he finished a quiz early at one of his online classes and got bored waiting for the others, so he took his Airsoft gun and started fidgeting with it. The teacher noticed Blow playing with the Airsoft gun several hours after the lesson while reviewing the recordings. According to an...

AURORA • Leading Colorado Republicans and supporters of President Donald Trump braved sub-freezing temperatures Thursday to demand that U.S. Rep. Jason Crow and his fellow House Democrats drop the escalating impeachment inquiry targeting the GOP president. "We know the Republicans are the party of fighters, we are the party that's going to pay attention to the facts — the roaring economy in our nation and here in Colorado," said Kristi Burton Brown, the Colorado Republican Party's vice chair, at a news conference held outside a building that houses Crow's congressional office in Aurora. "We're going to support the president." Burton...

Colorado Democrats want to close the “God gap.” It’s the theory in political science that calling yourself religious and regularly attending services are strong predictors of your political party affiliation, and for the past three decades those voters have largely called themselves Republicans. “We are here today to dispel a myth that somehow right-wing conservatives have a monopoly on faith,” Colorado Democratic Party Chair Morgan Carroll said from behind a podium in Civic Center Park last week. “They do not. Many, many, many Democrats — many people who have been in the party for a long time or who are...

Joe Biden survived the second round of Democratic presidential debates, but it became more apparent that over half the 22-person field is irrelevant and should get out, the sooner the better. The former vice president was repeatedly under attack on health care, criminal justice, immigration and abortion. He stumbled sometimes, but overall was sharper than his mediocre performance in the first debate a month ago. This won't assuage fears of mainstream Democrats that the 76-year-old Biden may not be up to the challenge of a protracted primary fight and bitter battle against Donald Trump. Still he was sufficiently engaged to...

President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign is preparing an early focus on Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, states that were instrumental to his improbable 2016 victory but where his support has softened, two campaign advisers said. The decision to accelerate campaign organising and eventually get the Republican president to make trips to the three states is a recognition that Trump’s path to re-election in 2020 will need to repeat some of the successes he had in 2016. Advisers also see a need to bolster Trump’s support in Florida, a battleground state he considers his second home but where opinion polls show him...

Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.) is throwing his support behind President Trump’s 2020 reelection bid, a move that could stir trouble for his own electoral prospects next year. Gardner, a onetime critic of Trump, told IJR that he was backing the president, because he believed Trump would do right by the people of Colorado. “Look, there are things here – look, I’ve made it very clear that where I agree with the president, we will agree or where I disagree, we will disagree,” Gardner said. “But I’m going to fight like hell for Colorado, and we’ve done some good things for...

Shortly before the 2016 presidential election, Donald Trump’s communications adviser Jason Miller proclaimed that both Michigan and New Mexico were in play. In both states, Miller said, internal polls showed a “dead heat,” and he predicted that campaigning in both places would spike. In Michigan, of course, that prediction was borne out. Trump won the state by the skin of his teeth, 11,000 votes. In New Mexico, though, he got blown out, losing by eight percentage points. This story seems pertinent now because of another prediction by another Trump campaign staff member focused on a different election. According to Axios,...

SOME NEWS -- We asked COLORADO GOV. JOHN HICKENLOOPER during a Playbook Exchange event here if he would run for the White House on a ticket with OHIO REPUBLICAN GOV. JOHN KASICH. He said: “I don’t think Kasich would ever do that … You never know. You never say. He’s an easy person to work with. He’s strongly opinionated. And quick to his opinion. But he also knows as much about the federal budget, and understands health care at a deeper level than almost any other governor I know. ... I don’t think it’s in the cards. But I do...

The chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee is rejecting President Trump’s keystone proposal for border security, saying “a wall is not the right way to proceed.” During a Wednesday telephone town hall with constituents, Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Col.) said building a wall is neither the most cost-effective nor the most secure way of closing the southern border. "As far as the wall goes, I believe we have to have border security, but I do think billions of dollars on a wall is not the right way to proceed," Gardner said. "I don't support a tariff to pay for any...

Gov. John Hickenlooper is talking about the Trump administration for the first time since the president’s inauguration. “There is a sense that it’s one thing after another after another after another that are so unorthodox and so startling in a way,” Hickenlooper said. But the governor urged Coloradans to be open-minded. “We owe him the benefit of the doubt. He is the president of the United States,” he said. In the same breath, the governor admitted Trump wasn’t making it easy. “The apparent disregard for the truth and facts … the really accelerated pace by which decisions are being made...

Colorado’s election chief is warning that presidential electors who vote for someone other than Hillary Clinton — the state's popular vote winner — could face a perjury charge. The warning from Secretary of State Wayne Williams, a Republican, increases the peril for a group of Colorado’s Democratic presidential electors who have signaled they may reject Clinton as part of a long-shot national strategy to block the election of Donald Trump. They were already facing the prospect of an election law violation that carries the potential for a small fine and a year of jail time. Williams told POLITICO in a...

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- Donald Trump is making a campaign stop in Grand Junction on Tuesday and that means all hands on deck. Law enforcement is preparing and the secret service is in town as Trump will land at the Grand Junction Regional Airport to speak to the Western Slope community ahead of Wednesday's debate in Las Vegas. "We really hope the entire community shares out excitement and our passion,” said Kraig Andrews Chairman of the Republican Party. More than 7,000 people are already registered to attend the rally. "When you show up tomorrow there will be people telling...

ALBANY— The New York State Republican Committee is helping Donald Trump — in Colorado and other swing states. A pro-Trump/anti-Hillary Clinton mailer sent to voters in Colorado says it is being paid for by the New York State Republican Committee. State Party Chairman Ed Cox said he was asked by the Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee for the help....

The three largest unions representing the three largest police departments in Colorado have endorsed Republican Donald Trump for president, the Denver Post reported. The Denver Police Protective Association, the Aurora Police Association and the Colorado Springs Police Protective Association on Monday announced their endorsements. Combined, the three unions represent more than 2,700 police officers serving communities in the crucial battleground state, which used to vote reliably Republican. However, years of immigration has essentially changed the demographic composition of the state, which Democrats hope to make more like New Mexico. In a news release, representatives from each union said “only” Mr....

Just before the first presidential debate Monday night, a new round of polls has been released that should strike fear into the hearts of Democrats. First off, the national race is looking very tight indeed. Democrats had hoped that Clinton had rebounded after a couple of respected polls last week showed her taking a 6-point lead over Trump. But the newest polls from major outlets — ABC News/Washington Post, Quinnipiac, and Bloomberg — show Clinton up 2, up 1, and down 2 to Trump in a four-way matchup that includes Gary Johnson and Jill Stein. But what’s probably scarier for...
