Ankara, Turkey (CNN) -- A funeral procession for a slain protester turned into chaos Sunday in Ankara as Turkish riot police used water cannons and tear gas to try to disperse rock-throwing demonstrators. In Istanbul, the sound of residents banging pots and pans together echoed down the streets as another face-off between police and anti-government protesters played out. The sound came from the buildings around Taksim Square and the adjacent Gezi Park, which authorities had cleared by force on Saturday. Thousands of demonstrators calling for Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's resignation attempted to return to the square and park Sunday,...

Turkey's prime minister issued a "final warning" to protesters on Thursday, demanding that they end their occupation of a park next to Istanbul's landmark Taksim Square. Sticking to his trademark defiant tone, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan also rejected condemnation by the European Parliament over the excessive use of force by Turkish riot police against demonstrators. The comments suggest that Erdogan is determined to end two weeks of widespread protests that have trained an unflattering spotlight on his Islamic-rooted government and have morphed into the biggest street unrest of his 10-year tenure. "We have arrived at the end of our...

Top U.S. intelligence officials testified Tuesday that they're "very concerned" the "belligerent" rhetoric out of North Korea could presage an attack on its southern neighbor. Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, along with the heads of the CIA and FBI, delivered the intelligence community's overview of global threats before the Senate Intelligence Committee. They were pressed on the recent and persistent warnings from Pyongyang, which just announced it was "completely scrapping" the 1953 armistice that ended the Korean War.

AUSTIN -- Forty years ago the U.S. Supreme Court handed down its ruling in the case of Roe vs. Wade. The ruling confirmed that the right to privacy includes making your own personal medical decisions, including abortion. However the fight over abortion rights continues. One of the biggest is playing out among state lawmakers. Polls show most Americans still support the Supreme Court's ruling. According to a 2012 Gallup Poll, 77 percent think abortion should be legal in some or all circumstances. The battle at the Texas Capitol centers on just how far abortion rights should go. Several bills have...

Gov. Rick Perry released the following statement regarding President Obama's executive actions: "The Vice President's committee was appointed in response to the tragedy at Newtown, but very few of his recommendations have anything to do with what happened there. "Guns require a finger to pull the trigger. The sad young man who did that in Newtown was clearly haunted by demons and no gun law could have saved the children in Sandy Hook Elementary from his terror. "There is evil prowling in the world - it shows up in our movies, video games and online fascinations, and finds its way...

Gov. Rick Perry's Facebook page is definitely interesting right now, to say the least. There is a lot of talk, urging him to consider having Texas secede from the union. While I believe that talk of secession is a bit dramatic right now, I understand where people are coming from. Frankly, I would support getting a coalition behind Gov. Perry for 2016 to take back the White House! Thoughts?

Vast vehicles out of some cyber punk dystopia rip at the earth to uncover the coal below. The clawed beasts, with wheels taller than a person, are driven by weather-beaten men, unshaven, rough and dusty in hard hats and shades. The personification of the white working class. This is Ohio's coal country, a rich seam of votes for Mitt Romney. He has accused President Barack Obama of waging a "war on coal" by bringing in new rules which make it harder for power stations to burn coal. Mining is not doing well. It lost 9,000 jobs last month, Friday's figures...

Chick-fil-A announced Thursday morning that supporters who flocked to the restaurant for "Appreciation Day" propelled the company to a "record-setting day." The statement confirmed anecdotal claims that the long lines seen at Chick-fil-A's across the country Wednesday fueled unprecedented sales. The turnout came after CEO Dan Cathy came under fire in some circles for his opposition to same-sex marriage. "We are very grateful and humbled by the incredible turnout of loyal Chick-fil-A customers on August 1 at Chick-fil-A restaurants around the country. We congratulate local Chick-fil-A Owner/Operators and their team members for striving to serve each and every customer with...

(KCEN) -- Shortly after the Supreme Court handed down their ruling on the health care bill, Texas Gov. Rick Perry released a statement with his reactions to the Court's decision. Perry said, "This ruling will be a stomach punch to the American economy. It is a shocking disappointment to freedom-loving Americans desperate to get our country back on track. Obamacare is bad for the economy, bad for health care, bad for freedom. Americans have made clear their overwhelming opposition to its convoluted, burdensome and overreaching mandates." His response was not the only one released. Several other local politicians reacted to...

– Gov. Jay Nixon said Thursday that his administration is beginning to review the implications of the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in favor of the federal health care law. “This ruling has significant complexities and implications for families, health care providers and insurers in our state,” Nixon said. “Here in Missouri, I’m committed to working collaboratively with citizens, businesses, medical providers and the legislature to move forward in a way that works best for families in our state.”

(CBS/AP) WOODLAND PARK, Colo. - A stubborn and towering wildfire jumped firefighters' perimeter lines and doubled in size in the hills overlooking Colorado Springs, forcing frantic mandatory evacuation notices for more than 9,000 residents, destroying an unknown number of homes and partially closing the grounds of the sprawling U.S. Air Force Academy. Heavy smoke and ash billowed from the mountain foothills west of the city. Bright yellow and orange flames flared in the night, often signaling another home lost to the Waldo Canyon Fire, the No. 1 priority for the nation's firefighters. Interstate 25, which runs through Colorado Springs, was...

BEIJING - In a matter of days, the number of expected foreign visitors to Tibet has gone from millions to zero. Chinese authorities alerted foreign travel agencies Tuesday that they would no longer be issuing entry permits to Tibet, the latest in a series of regulations being put on travelers to Tibet. The announcement follows the self-immolation of two Tibetans last week. Tibet is no stranger to Chinese interference in its tourism industry. Tibet's failed rebellion in March 1959 and the event's annual memorial on National Uprising Day has chronically put the region at odds with the People's Republic of...

Gov. Rick Perry said today he will continue his presidential campaign despite a fifth-place showing in the Tuesday Iowa caucuses and serious questions about whether he can continue. “I re-assessed,” Perry said as he left his West Des Moines hotel at about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. “We’re headed to New Hampshire and South Carolina.” Perry surprised the political world - and many of his advisers - when he Tweeted this morning that he would stay in the race. His Tweet included a photo from his morning jog. “I was out on the trail when it kind of came to me,” Perry...

With the recent words by Governor Palin about how it isn't too late for someone to entering the 2012 race and the speculation about whether she will enter or not, I have been wondering some things. Although I currently support Rick Perry, if Palin entered the race, I would be ecstatic and would support her and I know many others would as well. She said that the current GOP field didn't "excite her" and that she wasn't ready to endorse any of them. Although just a possibility, I think she might run herself. I know this has been condemned, condemned...

Until now, the biggest question looming over the 2012 Republican primary was who would emerge as the leading alternative to the nominal front-runner, Mitt Romney. We now know the answer to that question: Rick Perry. Sure, Perry jumped into the race only one day ago and needs to prove he's worthy of the national stage. Yes, Michele Bachmann is the one who boxed Tim Pawlenty out of the race with her triumph in the Iowa Straw Poll on Saturday. But it is the governor of the great big state of Texas, not the Minnesota congresswoman, who poses the biggest threat...
