The City of Charlottesville will soon be ordered to remove the black tarps currently covering two Confederate statues downtown. Reading from an official court letter Tuesday afternoon, Charlottesville Circuit Court Judge Richard Moore said he thinks the shrouds on the statues of Gens. Robert E. Lee and Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson are a violation of a state code protecting the removal or disturbance of war memorials. Moore said the city will have 15 days to remove the tarps after an official order has been signed.

RICHMOND, Va. — Former FBI director James Comey will teach an ethical leadership course at the College of William & Mary starting next fall, the school announced Friday. The William & Mary alumnus will serve as an executive professor in education as he teaches the three-credit course. Drew Stelljes, the school's executive assistant professor of education and assistant vice president for student leadership, will co-teach the class during the next three semesters.

UPDATED: Gov. Bev Perdue is expected to announce today that she will not seek a second term as governor, two sources close to the Democrat's campaign tell The News & Observer. Perdue is expected to make an announcement this afternoon, a N.C. Democratic Party spokesman said. Her campaign aides began telling top Democrats in the past 24 hours. Perdue campaign spokesman Marc Farinella could not be reached for comment.

The day after the Charlottesville City Council passed a resolution calling on the federal government to end all its wars and avoid starting a new one with Iran, the move has drawn attention from abroad. One arm of Iran’s state-owned media, PressTV, is reporting the council’s latest foray into foreign policy through an interview with David Swanson, the Charlottesville peace activist who helped push the resolution.
