  • Don Guido (Marini, new Master of Ceremonies)

Somehow, and I don’t mean this in any way as a slur on those of Italian descent, the name “Guido” gives me a great deal of peace of mind regarding the future of Papal liturgies should this rumor prove to be true. Parish liturgical committees pushing dancing girls? Father dressed as a witch with purple hair on October 31? Send Guido to take care of the problem.

It would be really interesting to find out when she served in Phoenix and why she left. Bishop Olmstead is visibly pro-life and in the first few weeks of his arrival to take over the diocese he led the pro-lifers in a rosary and, I think, procession in front of an abortion mill. Could Olmstead have caused her to leave Phoenix? Hmmm...curiouser and curiouser.

The Priestly Fraternity has already had 3 boot camps for priests desiring to learn the Traditional Mass. They have trained 36 priests already and have a waiting list for the classes in the fall. Training takes place at the FSSP seminary in Denton, Nebraska. Anyone who knows of priests who want to attend this training should call Father Goodwin at the seminary. You can find the phone number at the FSSP web site.

Pardon me all, but how can we know that Mr. Palmo’s document is actually the one that will be released? Can this not be a “stir the pot” by some Modernist and Mr. Palmo be the useful idiot? In any case, we will learn by tomorrow. I hope EWTN carries a TV feed.

Kyrie eleison, Christe eleison, Kyrie eleison are indeed Greek, but not the only Greek in the Traditional Liturgy. On Good Friday the choir chants in Greek and Latin alternately: Hagios o Theos, Sanctus Deus, Hagios ischyros, Sanctus fortis, Hagios o Theos athanatos eleison imas, Sanctus immortalis miserere nobis. This takes place during the singing of the reproaches, which is never done in most Novus Ordo parishes any more, and where it is done, not in Latin and Greek but in the vernacular.

Catholics devoted to the Divine Mercy will recognize these words as the closing of the chaplet: Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy immortal One, have mercy on us! It amazes me that Our Lord gave this prayer to the Church before the same prayer recited on Good Friday was condemned to oblivion after Vatican II. It is also a prayer God gave to St. Anthony Mary Claret during adoration of the Holy Eucharist. God asked St. Anthony to have all the Catholics in Spain say this prayer often, which he did in the many retreats he preached all over Spain. This was in the 1800s. Maybe somebody in Spain can say whether this practice died out or not in families over the years.

  • German Priests Reject Vatican Directive on Translation

This is what happens when the liturgy is allowed in the vernacular. “For all” was never ever the translation when the Mass was in Latin and the vernacular translations that ran along side the Latin were accurate. The Church is reaping what it has sowed in the severe disobedience since the 1960s. Sad that these priests don’t realize that their bad example is taken up by the laity. When these priests want the laity to do everything they say and the laity balk, they become furious. This is but one more example of the need to pray for all the priests of the Church.

God led the Israelites in a cloud of smoke. Perhaps the showing of this photo is more profound than the journalists expected. The Pope is the Vicar of Christ, Second Person of the Blessed Trinity in which all Three are One. I think the joke is on the newspaper.

This is a great thing that you are doing. Don't worry about the head coverings. Prior to Vatican II, women were expected to have their hair covered and many wore hats. If the student women want to wear a hat that is fine. Sometimes extra veils are provided in the back of church for those who want to wear them. I don't think anyone will get on anyone's case for lack of a head covering.

Since people can get confused the first time they ever assist at a Traditional Mass, perhaps you can also tell them not to worry about keeping up with the priest. If they just want to look and meditate on what is happening, that is just fine. If they get "hooked", there is plenty of time to study how to participate.

I would also recommend that, if possible, you arrange for a priest or someone from the parish to meet with the students afterwards to answer questions and encourage them to return. My husband is a convert from Protestantism and he was lost the first time we went to the Traditional Mass. However, he said to me, "We have to come back." So the Holy Spirit will work in each person. Perhaps you might encourage each student to pray to the Holy Spirit to open their hearts to this liturgy, and make understanding easier.

I don't know if the parish has people who welcome people when they are new, but it would be really beneficial if the students were invited to return by a regular member of the parish. Perhaps someone from the parish who is also a student might take your student friends in hand. Just some thoughts. I love this liturgy and have to drive 3 hours one way to attend when I can.

So far no one has related a very important point made by the Holy See regarding kneeling to receive Holy Communion. If people want to know more, go to http://www.adoremus.org/Notitiae-kneeling.html. You will find that the United States Bishops were given permission to demand standing for Holy Communion with the proviso that no one receiving It kneeling was to be denied, nor were they to be made to feel that he is being disobedient. Bishop Brown is indeed smarmy in the extreme.

To all who keep poisting that Burke excommunicated Bozek and the board: he did NOT. They excommunicated themselves. That is what laetae sententiae means: automatic. Burke only declared, made public for the good of souls, that these people had excommunicated themselves and gave the relevant quotes from the relevant canons. Even if he had wanted to, Burke could not have un-excommunicated these people, nor can he in the future unless they bring themselves into compliance with Church law. As for now, St. Stanislaus is now a protestant church with a protestant pastor. Until they quit protesting against the Church, they will remain protestant.

You betcha Leibrecht knew he was kicked out of seminaries for homosexual activity, even though Bozek denies that he was kicked out but rather left of his own accord. Yeah, sure!

Bozek is not the only priest ordained in the last seven years in the Springfield Cape-Girardeau diocese who has sexual problems. The other stories have remained out of the press. Leibrecht is so busy trying to get men who don't accept all the teachings of the Catholic Church but rather reflect his own beliefs that he has put the diocese at risk spiritually and temporally. How much longer are we to suffer this man?

Leibrecht submitted his resignation in August as required. We have had no public information of its acceptance or rejection. August, 2006 is the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Springfield/Cape Girardeau diocese and rumor has it that Leibrecht asked Rome if he could stay through the celebration ceremonies at both Cathedrals - east and west sides of the diocese - in October 2006. Many of us hope fervently that his part in the Bozek-St. Stanislaus affair will be cause to accept his resignation very soon. But we're not counting on it.

St. Meinrad Seminary is not known for its orthodoxy. Our diocese (Springfield/Cape Girardeau) is not known for its orthodoxy - bishop, priests (for the most part), and people. Bozek was Leibrecht's fair-haired boy - the kind of priest saying and doing the kinds of things he heartily approves of and covered with much approbation in our diocesan newspaper. Very disturbing for Catholics who have more than a passing acquaintance with the Catechism of the Catholic Church and our sacred Tradition. We will probably never know what St. Meinrad's advised Leibrecht about ordaining Bozek as Leibrecht will never tell, but Bozek is typical of many priests coming through the Catholic seminary system today. You can read numerous factual accounts of the problems documented over the past 10-12 years in The Wanderer, but nothing beats first-hand conversations with the priests themselves. This type of thing makes it really hard on the fine, orthodox young men who are trying to fulfill their priestly vocations alongside of the Bozeks of this world. As a member of the Springfield/Cape diocese, I am appalled at the caliber of men recruited for the sacred priesthood here during Leibrecht's tenure.

Right on! I have similar questions: why was he recruited in the first place? How was it that he learned of the need for priests in the Springfield/Cape Girardeau diocese and within two weeks was on a plane here?

The quotes from Bozek in the Springfield News-Leader indicate that after all his training, he has an abysmal understanding of the meaning of the sacred priesthood itself.
