Leibrecht submitted his resignation in August as required. We have had no public information of its acceptance or rejection. August, 2006 is the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Springfield/Cape Girardeau diocese and rumor has it that Leibrecht asked Rome if he could stay through the celebration ceremonies at both Cathedrals - east and west sides of the diocese - in October 2006. Many of us hope fervently that his part in the Bozek-St. Stanislaus affair will be cause to accept his resignation very soon. But we're not counting on it.
