New York City Police Commissioner Bill Bratton defended the bludgeoning of 84 year old Kang Wong by City police officers as “fully justified.” The incident occurred as part of the City’s new “get tough on jaywalking” campaign. Wong, who does not speak English was roughed up by several cops when he failed to obey the first officer’s command to stay put as he wrote Wong a ticket for jaywalking. After the beat down Wong was taken to the hospital where surgical staples had to be applied to close a scalp wound. Bratton insisted that the scalp wound “must’ve happened when...

In the 1920s, Japan began to translate its growing economic might — after a prior 50-year crash course in Western capitalism and industrialization — into formidable military power.

At first, few of its possible rivals seemed to care. America and condescending European colonials did not quite believe that any Asian power could ever dare to threaten their own Pacific interests.

I am just so tired of seeing the same stuff over and over again. I dearly love the U.S.A. I am a VN veteran an and a Mil /Govt employe. Now retired ...some what. Seen a lot in my years. Just pissed-off when I think abut moving back to the U.S.A. for living. Not much more...just a brief rant about hope and hopelessness.

I'm not really one to get involved in "conspiracy" theories - but, like many here, I receive a number of emails from folks around the world on various topics.I have recently received more than a few, from some folks I know to be highly reputable, on some factors that have come to light about the school shootings in Sandy Hook. In the past I have just deleted these stories - not really worth my time to look farther into the latest 'wack-job' stuff. But this thing does seem to have some legs now. It seems to be a fact that the...

When the woman called 911 a deputy wasn’t sent because the compliance officer is a county employee. A Georgia homeowner allegedly awoke to an unusual scene on July 2 — a county code compliance officer yelling at her over the state of her lawn from the doorway of her bedroom. “I woke up, I didn’t have my glasses on or my contacts in and all I see is this big burly figure standing in my doorway,” Erica Masters explained. “A big huge guy with a grey shirt. It scared the mess out of me.” She elaborated: “[He] yelled at me...

A good story about the rise of a new genre of Rock 'n Roll.Something for the rockers on FR. The Blaze article at the link kind of high-lights Madison Rising, but quite a number of other bands and singers are mentioned.

UNTIL the deaths last week of four Canadian soldiers accidentally killed by a US warplane in Afghanistan, probably almost no one outside their home country had been aware that Canadian troops were deployed in the region. And as always, Canada will now bury its dead, just as the rest of the world as always will forget its sacrifice, just as it always forgets nearly everything Canada ever does.

Lamentable though it may be, news last week that Central Police University associate professor Wu Chang-yu (å³å½°è£•) had been taken in on suspicion of passing information about dissidents to China was not shocking. However, this incident did bring into sharp contrast the dawn of a new era of Chinese “espionage” in Taiwan. There is nothing new to espionage operations by China targeting the Taiwanese military, security apparatus, political parties and high-tech sector. Over the years, a number of Taiwanese have been caught spying for Beijing. The arrest and sentencing this year of General Lo Hsien-che (羅賢哲) for providing military secrets...

In the U.S.A back in the late '60s, there was a riotous situation called, appropriately enough, "The Chicago Riots." These were also billed, on hand-outs, flyers, etc. "The Days of Rage"...general hippy leftist rioting over the VN War and all the things that made the '60s the '60s.The follow-up to this was a long drawn out trial for "The Chicago 7." I think there were 8 but one was removed from the group for a separate trial. My point is, the charges which were brought, and made to stick, was for 'Conspiracy to Cross a state line with the intent...

STONEY FORK, Ky. (AP) — Bringing the majestic elk back to the Appalachian hills and hollows where they once roamed has become a nightmare. Rogues from a herd that numbers in the thousands are trampling gardens, flattening fences and marring yards with manure in the southeastern Kentucky town of Stoney Fork. They have made the roads dangerous, causing dozens of car crashes....(excerpt)

(excerpt) France said it would close a low-key military liaison office in Taiwan in retaliation over a ruling in a controversial arms deal, local media said yesterday. The Chinese-language Liberty Times (the Taipei TimesÂ’ sister paper) reported that the office, which arranges visits by military personnel and facilitates TaiwanÂ’s acquisition of French-made weaponry, would be shut down next month. The office is part of the French Institute in Taiwan, the de facto embassy of France in the absence of formal diplomatic ties. The report came after a decision by an international court last month ordering French group Thales to pay...
