In light of the Mike Brown and Trayvon Martin cases, I am seeking FReeper opinions on how concealed, or open, carriers view their roles and responsibilities. Your responses are greatly appreciated.

Use the FR search engine for Joe Horn. This Houston incident, in 2008, shows strong similarities to the current imbroglio in Florida. Many community rabble pimps, Sheila J. Lee, et al, called for Mr. Horn's head. The Grand Jury refused to indict Mr. Horn for shooting two black, illegal alien burglars. The burglars broke into a neighbors home, during the day. Horn confronted them and killed both when they made aggressive moves toward him, one even had shotgun wounds in his back.

I have long known about the existence of the CFR - Council on Foreign Relations. In some recent readings, there was a listing of many past and current members: politicians of both parties, non-elected government officials, military, etc. The light for me went off when I saw WJ Clinton and GHW Bush as members. Which, for me, explained their collegial relations during the Haiti fund raisings, etc. The CFR is also one of the long term proponents of the New World Order, i.e., elites over the non-elites, I guess. Again for me, it means we really don't get "two party"...

Looking for FReeper recommendations on political or military history books. Have recently finished two books on the JFK assassination. So books on JFK or LBJ are of current interest.

Looking for information or feedback re FMLA. By law, Texas is a "right to work" state. Until the FMLA is invoked, then it is next to impossible to fire someone for non-performance, insubordination, etc. I have a female employee who has, IMHO, abused the FMLA, her co-workers, managers, etc. And Human Resources will NOT allow her termination out of fear of a FMLA related lawsuit. Would appreciate any related experiences that will help me resolve the situation. Merry Christmas to all FREEPERS!

I have received donation requests from Paralyzed Veterans of America and Purple Heart charities. Does anyone have any knowledge or experience with these organizations, good or bad?

Listen up FREEPERS! Time to get involved! Go by the local recruiting office of the USMC/USA/USN/USAF and take a home-made cake or cookies, take a recruiter to lunch, order some pizza deliveries, etc. Be creative. Give a BBQ for them, take them to a local ball game. Most anything to show your appreciation and support will work. Spend a few minutes, have a cup of coffee. Show your appreciation to the local face of your military. Word of your action will soon get to the troops in the field and on the ships. Their gratitude will make your day! Guaranteed!...

I am looking for color posters of the WTC on 9-11-01. Specifically posters of the crash/fireball type. I find several of "before" or "after", the memorial lights, the firefighters raising the flag, etc. I want to put the poster in my office. Seems to me too many folks have forgotten, or at least put it out of their "active" memory. Any referrals would be greatly appreciated. Semper Fi, USMC 1970-1981

DUDLEY ALTHAUS Copyright 2003 Houston Chronicle NUEVO LAREDO, Mexico -- They've gathered for supper again at a final way station along Mexico's migrant trail. More than 100 men and boys, and a handful of women, who plan to sneak into the United States stand silently before trays heaped with bread, meat stew, vegetables, beans and rice. This is the first meal many of these migrants have had in some time. It may be the last they'll have in God knows how long. "Think of your families," Sister Juanita Montecillo, one of the half-dozen Roman Catholic nuns and priests running this...
