Back in “the old days,” Russians used to walk to J-lem and back on pigrimage all the time. Not only that, they would carry all their own food — both ways — in the form of “rusks,” or dried bread. A devoted bunch indeed.
I think this may have to do with formulating an official Congressional response to those pesky states that are asserting their 10th Amendment rights re Federal regulation of firearms NOT in interstate commerce.
The European approach: rights are to be “given,” by a parliament or legislature that can just as easily take them away later on. That’s not the way we do things on this side of the water.
