  • BOYCOTT NBC NOW!!!!!!

I'm so f**king pi**ed right now. A few minutes ago I heard the most tasteless joke I've ever heard on TV from Jay Leno. The jist was that it's really bad that Dick Cheney has laryngitis (sp?) because people can't understand him when he says (muffled voice, pounding chest) "Heart attack, heart attack!!". I just called both local NBC affiliates and told them that I was going to get a list of all of their sponsors and boycott them and that I was removing their channels from the rotation on all of my TVs. You all need to do the ...
  • 'Undignified' Skating Moves on Thin Ice

Most parents probably don't think they need a V-chip device to monitor the figure skating their kids watch on TV. But come to think of it, some of those skirts are pretty skimpy. And while today's on-ice acrobatics are certainly less provocative than the average Britney Spears video, might the sport be offending some of its audience? That's what the International Skating Union - the organization that governs figure skating from the Olympics on down - suggested when it decreed that "undignified" moves such as "upside-down splits" and "backward spread eagles" will be penalized starting next season. The rule came ...

0606-l02   Wednesday, June 6th, 2001 - BUTLER COUNTY'S GREAT DAILY NEWSPAPER Letters to the Editor Prayers answered It doesn?t take God long to answer when enough people pray. On May 3, the National Day of Prayer, we united in prayer for the nation. Before the end of the month, U.S. Sen. James Jeffords of Vermont answered that call: ?We pray today for our nation?s leaders. ?Set our feet on the path of Your righteousness.? I believe Sen. Jeffords is answering God?s call to turn our nation around. Let?s keep on praying. Helen HubnerZelienople BACK TO TOP OF LISTBACK ...
  • Rare plant stalls sewer line project - Endangered leaf-flower might inhabit location

JACKSON TWP: A half-million dollar sewer line project is at a standstill, but it's not because of routine reasons such as a lack of funds, inter-municipal squabbling or even bad weather. It's because of a flower. The project to extend sewer lines from the Western Butler County Authority plant in Zelienople to the southern parts of Jackson Township has halted because an endangered plant may be there. Paul Kremer, a member of the authority board, said his office received notification a few weeks ago that the Carolina leaf-flower may be present in one of the areas that the sewer lines ...
  • Zelienople fire siren to resound again (humor)

Zelienople fire siren to resound again ZELIENOPLE - After a month being on the ground behind the borough building, the borough's fire siren will soon be back in service. Mayor Tom Oliverio at Monday's borough council meeting directed Marla Marcinko, the borough manager, to have the siren re-installed and put back in service. The siren was removed from the borough building's roof several weeks ago while the roof was being replaced. Council members then began debating whether the siren was necessary, especially considering the noise it produces. Oliverio could not be reached for comment Tuesday. Jason Butterfield, president of the ...

IT'S OK, THOUGH. ROSIE SAYS WE DON'T NEED MATH ANYWAY Yeah, Queen Rosie recently weighed in on the teaching math in schools controversy. She says that we don't really need math any more anyway. According to Ms. O'Donnell, "I think there's no way they should have to teach (math) now. We have computers. We no longer need to know why 3x = 2y/4." Thanks, Ms. O'Donnell. If you had learned math in school maybe you would be able to count calories.

  • Republicans voting for Algore for President

Republicans voting for Al Gore for President - Election 2000 Republicans voting for Al Gore for President - Election 2000 Al Gore supports more Republican values than Republicans A winning team, and a job well done. Being a Republican isn't just joining a party, it's a point of view. And when you look at the issues Republicans stand for and then compare our elected officials to our beliefs, President Clinton and Al Gore are the one who is delivering what traditional Republicans are looking for. To me it's more important what a candidate does and what he stands for ...

We at Comedy Central just can't let Bill Clinton leave the Oval Office -- If he goes, the best of political comedy goes with him. • When Will Republicans Apologize for Whitewater

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Remember that great kid's T-shirt: "My Mom and Dad went to San Francisco -- and all I got was this lousy T-shirt"? Those kids were luckier than we were. At least, they got a T-shirt. We spent six years and $52 million on a Whitewater investigation and got absolutely nothing. Next to the racist persecution of Wen Ho Lee, the political persecution of Bill and Hillary Clinton is the greatest outrage of our times. There was nothing to the Whitewater charges in the beginning. There was nothing in the end. Yet, in between, there were no ...
  • David McReynolds outlines his Socialist platform at Austin College

David McReynolds was emphatic, but rarely raised his voice as he outlined the Socialist platform on which he stands as the party's candidate for president of the United States. McReynolds said many Americans understand why the Socialist Party exists in European countries, but few understand why it exists in the United States. "We are here to raise the issues that the candidates of the major parties dare not raise," he said. "If either the Democrat or Republican candidate raised these issues, they would lose the election. But that doesn't make the issues less important." McReynolds identified American foreign policy, ...

Clinton’s legacy troubling I think it is time for more discussion about the problems the Clintons have brought on with their stay in office. First, Bill Clinton has brought disgrace to the country by displaying that it is all right to commit adultery and cheat on your wife. This was not the first time Clinton had done this. The president has a past history of rape, cheating and lying to his wife and the public. But that is nothing. What about his political back-stabbings? He has sold us out to the Chinese government. What about his depleting the military? Since ...
  • Be More Wary of Gore - My letter to the Editor

Be more wary of Gore In a Sept. 5 letter to the editor, “Examine Bush’s record,” Rick Devore lets loose more inaccurate or misleading statements in a few paragraphs than Bill Clinton does in a grand jury testimony. One of the more blatant lies is that George W. Bush has signed more than 100 death warrants as governor of Texas. The truth is that death warrants in Texas are handed down by juries and judges, not the governor. Pardons and sentence commutations are granted by the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles, not the governor. The only power the ...

In an Aug. 23 letter to the editor, ?Don?t hit GOP on religion,? Steve Blakney blasted the news media for criticizing George W. Bush?s religious pandering while Vice President Al Gore and his running mate, Sen. Joseph Lieberman, have remained unscathed for mentioning God and religion. Perhaps it is because Gore and Lieberman have no intention to impose their religious beliefs on the populace, as Bush and the Christian Right do in a manner that is unconstitutional and riddled with glaring hypocrisy. Bush has stated that Jesus Christ is his savior and his favorite philosopher. If Bush is the ultimate ...

Pocketbooks or hymnbooks? PHILADELPHIA — Gov. John Engler of Michigan was musing about the problem facing the Republicans this fall. If a husband and wife both work in the auto industry, he said, they earn at least a $150,000 a year and probably own a lakeside cabin and a small boat. So why should they vote to change the government? All over America this fall, Al Gore will repeat the famous question that helped elect Ronald Reagan in 1980: “Are you better off than you were four years ago?” In that election, many Democrats answered no and voted Republican. This ...
  • Don't turn U.S. into Texas

Don't turn U.S. into Texas Poverty rages in colonies of Bush's Texas. Water and sewage are unavailable. And he wants to run our country. Heaven help us, he can't run his own state. We the little people, can make our vote count. Don't let this election be bought. Vote for the man who cares for young and old alike, and for this country. Bush said the young people should have a choice to invest their Social Security. Why throw away a sure thing and chance losing Social Security, which has been secure for 30 years? Choose the right and caring ...
