A Radcliff woman and her seven children are gearing up for battle against Fort Knox for custody of a dog that wound up on the secure post in mid-June, where it was impounded by the post’s stray animal facility, then sold to a new owner 11 days later. It was after dark June 15 when Kim Church and her family realized their 2-year-old Weimeraner, Riley, had vanished from their home on Kentucky Circle. Left behind were Riley’s two blue metal tags, which Church said were found in the front yard. How the tags parted from Riley’s flamboyant pink collar remains...

CODY -- Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal mauling by a grizzly bear Thursday of a Shoshone National Forest cabin owner. The incident occurred at a site where a bear had been captured and released earlier that day. Erwin Frank Evert, 70, of Park Ridge, Ill., was reported missing to a member of the Interagency Grizzly Bear Study Team who had been conducting research in the Kitty Creek drainage, about seven miles east of Yellowstone National Park. Researchers had earlier trapped and released an adult male grizzly in the area, according to information released by Park County Sheriff...

Video of the homecoming for my son-in-law Alan's unit as it returns to Ft Campbell, Kentucky. Glad to have them and especially him back. A few minor scrapes and breaks, but no major injuries and they spent nearly everyday on the road hauling equipment from outlaying operating bases to major bases such as Ballad. The equipment was then prepared for shipping back to the states or to Afghanistan.

I became a grandpa Thursday morning. My daughter was supposed to have a C-Section next Thursday as she was a high risk pregnancy. She went in for a stress test on Thursday and there was a slight problem with fetal heartbeat. The OB team had a quick meeting and recommended a "necessary, but not emergency" C-Section. She agreed and walked into the OR. My son-in-law helped her up on the table and then stood right by her. Evan came into the world kicking and screaming and mom and son are doing fine. Respecting her request for privacy there are no...

Evangelical Christians in the United States had better see a big challenge staring us in the face. Franklin Graham was disinvited by the Pentagon for making statements that are required by faithfulness to the gospel of Christ.Thursday, May 6, 2010 Marking the National Day of Prayer, evangelist Franklin Graham led in prayer this morning at the Pentagon. Not inside the Pentagon, mind you, but outside, where he led a handful of other Christians in silent prayer. The recent controversy about Franklin Graham is a sign of things to come. The prominent evangelist, son of Billy Graham, is known for his...

Mild temperatures and sunshine made Tuesday nice for walking the banks of Green River, but Ronda Wood and her siblings weren’t marching the streamside for fun. Monday evening, Wood’s brother, 55-year-old Radcliff resident Bobby Atcher, disappeared during a risky, swift-water paddle of Green River with his friend, Gary Tyler. The pair launched their boats before noon behind a Munfordville school. They shrugged off a warning from a city police officer trying to convince them not to paddle the river, which was about 30 feet above flood stage when they launched. One couple even took a photo of the risk-takers as...

The Military Religious Freedom Foundation has recently taken offense to the cross and motto on the emblem of an Army hospital in Colorado, claiming that it violates the separation of church and state, AP reports. The group has asked the Army to change the emblem of the Evans Army Community Hospital at Fort Carson, which has the motto “Pro deo et humanitate” which means “For God and humanity” written on it. The symbol had been around since 1969. Fort Carson’s Lt. Col. Steven Wollman said the idea of doctors serving God and humanity predates Christianity to the time of the...

IF TORQUEMADA HAD A LAPTOP. The Defense Department has declared war on PowerPoint. Army Gen. Stanley McChrystal, who heads U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan, told the New York Times, “It’s dangerous because it can create the illusion of understanding and the illusion of control. Some problems in the world are not bullet-izable.” To prove his point, McChrystal’s been displaying an indecipherable slide of the United States’ military strategy. “When we understand that slide, we’ll have won the war,” he’s said. Marine Corps Gen. James Mattis, Joint Forces commander, put it more succinctly: “PowerPoint makes us stupid.” Kudos to military...

CODY-A sixty-year old resident of Rogers, Arkansas was recently fined $18,060 (eighteen thousand sixty dollars) in fines and lost his hunting privileges for 10 years for falsifying his residency status in order to purchase resident hunting licenses in Wyoming. Charles E. Gerhardt was found guilty of two counts of false swearing to obtain resident deer (hunt area 116) and resident elk (hunt area 62) licenses in 2009. According to Jim Olson, Meeteetse game warden for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, a concerned citizen provided enough information to initiate an investigation, which later revealed that Gerhardt had been applying for...

Had a great time plinking yesterday. My son, a son-in-law, and yours truly did a guy thing. We went to Knob Creek Range to zero a new 10-22 my son-in-law recently purchased. Luckily we took plenty of .22 ammunition along with some other. We ended up burning through the majority of a 550 round loose pack box. Between the 10-22 and my son's Mk II we had a great time. We also took a WW2 vintage M1911A1 (made in 1943). There were some soldiers from Ft Knox in the lane beside us. Let them each burn through a magazine of...

Fox News broadcaster Glenn Beck is famous for launching verbal grenades, and he did so again in recent days, calling upon church members to flee congregations that promote social justice. His comments incited an immediate controversy, where far more heat than light has yet been evident. As expected, there is more to this story than meets the eye -- or may reach the ear via the public conversation. During his March 2, 2010 radio broadcast, Beck said this: I beg you, look for the words "social justice" or "economic justice" on your church Web site. If you find it, run...

CHEYENNE-- Like many other states, Wyoming has a list of official state symbols, from a state tree to a state butterfly. But on Wednesday, Wyoming became the first state in the nation to have an official state code. In a state Capitol ceremony, Gov. Dave Freudenthal signed into law legislation making "The Code of the West" the official state code. The code is composed of 10 principles outlined in Jim Owen's book "Cowboy Ethics: What Wall Street can learn from the Code of the West." Among them: "Always Finish What you Start," "When You Make a Promise, Keep It," and...

These sure bring back the memories. Turn the speakers up a little to drown out the background noise and enjoy a few minutes of nostalgia.
