A grateful and at times defiant Donald Trump told The Post Sunday he’s “supposed to be dead” as he recalled the harrowing moment a would-be assassin shot him at a Pennsylvania campaign rally.
The former president shared the “very surreal experience” that nearly ended his life during an interview aboard his private plane enroute to Milwaukee for the GOP National Convention.
“The doctor at the hospital said he never saw anything like this, he called it a miracle,” said Trump, who was sporting a loose, large white bandage that covered his right ear. His staff insisted that no photos be taken.
“I’m not supposed to be here, I’m supposed to be dead,” Trump said. “I’m supposed to be dead.”
He said he would be if he had not turned his head slightly to the right to read a chart on illegal immigrants. At that instant, what would have been a kill shot instead tore off a small piece of his ear and splattered blood on his forehead and cheek.
Trump said that as Secret Service agents led him off stage, he still wanted to continue speaking to supporters, but the agents told him it wasn’t safe and they had to get him to a hospital.
He marveled at how the agents came flying in like they were “linebackers” as soon as the shooting started and he unbuttoned his white long sleeve shirt to show a large bruise on his right forearm.
He also cleared up a mystery about his shoes. On the video of the shooting and aftermath, as the burly agents tried to rush him off the stage for safety, he can be heard saying, “Wait, I want to get my shoes.”

We could have all witnessed Donald trumps brains being blown out that’s something that I can’t even imagine ever witnessing and I know reading the interview that trump gave that he sees how close he came to death he sees life differently now
I was awake well into the night last night thinking about what I had seen and how it could have turned out. Thank God he is okay.
Amen to that! God has other plans for President Trump!
Under the circumstances, it’s easy to feel gratitude toward God.
This event transcends a miracle of divine intervention and enters into the realm of virtual metaphysical proof of the existence of God.
This is like having a soda straw tucked behind your ear like a cigarette and rotating your head at the precise instant so the bullet travels perfectly down the length of the straw without touching the edges.
Looks like The Lord has a purpose for Donald Trump - hope it's a good one.
What an amazingly brave man. This is the leader we need now.
Divine providence.
Having been through several life threatening situations, I can attest that it alters what you find important.
God can, and will, adjust your priorities when He needs to.
A good man died a man’s death in his place. He needs to finish this and go scorched earth on all America’s enemies. Most of them are inside the borders already. No compromise, no talking. Action on defending and upholding the constitution and to hell with the rest.
We are at a pivotal point. Either he wins and drastic things happen or war comes and even more drastic things happen. That’s where we are at. It’s the brink.
I irritate the stuffing out of my wife about missed accidents and disasters. I usually put them in what I think is the proper perspective, the past but something to learn from. I have missed at least injury and maybe death a time or two and it didn't shake me so much but I am awfully grateful. I wonder how I would feel if Trump?
I was out front watering by the highway this evening. We have an irresponsible gun happy neighbor about 3/8 mile south. They were popping off random rounds. I heard one and what sounded like the whiz of a bullet. Very strange sound, distinctive, just like in a movie. I'd do something about the oaf but he would just do it again and shoot this way on purpose. Rednecks and libertarians and liberals all share some of the same insolent gene pool.
Talk about a lonely man! A southside republican? Keep your head down.
Dang time to set up a berm.
He is under the protection of God. He won’t allow something to happen to a friend of Israel.

It must be terrifying to know people want to kill you and actually tried. Tough to live with that.
All this man does is work to make this country the best it can be for American citizens. It’s his personal mission from God.

I think it was Churchill who said there was nothing more exhilarating than surviving people shooting at you. I believe it happened in the Boer War.
It was not only Trump that almost died, it was American civil order, shaky as it has been for many years, and especially since Biden’s so-called election.
I fully believe that a dead or even gravely injured Donald Trump would have been a catalyst for a spiral into massive civil unrest as the inequality of elitist treatment of our side and their side reached an entirely new and disturbing level.
We have seen a tick towards that perhaps, but good fortune for Donald Trump has somewhat softened the blow to civil order and allowed his side of the political divide to focus on future tasks, providence, and even more urgent need for change.
What is playing out as very contrived and hollow is any statement made by any Democrat (with perhaps a few exceptions) because we all know that is a master class in hypocrisy and passive aggressive return to the never-ending theme with them, “what we need is unity as in everyone agrees with us or goes to jail.”
This cannot last and any one of a number of stresses could end the relative tranquility now seen. Many think, well, bring it on, if it has to happen, and the only alternative is a globalist ant colony of brain-dead shuffling automatons (you can tell I’m on holiday near a big city), then I would tend to agree,
GIVE ME LIBERTY or GIVE ME DEATH.
The slow death of a thousand cuts is demoralizing and leaves us numb, wondering when is that moment to take the chance to preserve freedom, always having that perhaps illusory alternative of a social counter-revolution backed up by electoral success.
Absolutely weird how one maladjusted and brainwashed individual of very little potential or consequence can come so close to destroying the social fabric of a large and great nation with its history and cultural achievements.
But enough about Justin Trudeau ...
