Liberal is a kind word - I live in the area pushing hard for socialized medicine (of course, they don't call it that). I came back to Maine, foolishly remembering it from my youth as a state of individual liberty - it's now gone from "As Maine goes, so goes the nation" to "As Maine goes, so goes Vermont" and last November, "As Maine goes, so goes Maine" - and I am ashamed.
