(Columbia) Oct. 20, 2004 - A federally funded group based in Columbia has found itself in a mess after it sent bulk mail to six of South Carolina's poorest counties promoting a "Vaccinate and Vote" program. Carolina Medical Review gets money to promote immunizations. It sent out a mailing to 46,000 Medicare recipients that encourages people to get flu shots on November 2nd at the polls. Moreover, officials said they were receptive at an open house at the former Florence County Library on Pine Street sponsored by the Florence County Voter Registration and Election Commission. Florence County voters will use new machines this fall FLORENCE - Florence County voters will see new electronic voting machines when they go to the polls in November, Florence County Voter Registration and Elections Director Russell Barrett said Thursday. The State Election Commission announced Wednesday it signed a contract with Election Systems and Software for new voting machines in 16 counties, including Florence. The order comes amid claims of voting irregularities, two recounts and protests by both Williams and Norwood. Williams wins Senate 30 recount FLORENCE -- Kent Williams will face Sen. Maggie Glover in a runoff election June 22 for the state Senate District 30 seat. The runoff was decided Monday after a mandatory recount. The state Election Commission ordered the recount because there was a difference of less than 1 percent between Williams and Tim Norwood for the second place position in the June 8 Democratic primary.
