New Poll Shows DeMint With Commanding Lead
Congressman Has Commanding 13-Point Lead Over Liberal Opponent
A poll conducted this week for the Club for Growth shows Republican Congressman Jim DeMint, a candidate for the U.S. Senate in South Carolina with a commanding lead over liberal Inez Tenenbaum.
The poll of 500 likely South Carolina voters was conducted by Basswood Research, based in Washington, D.C. on September 25-26. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.38%. Among the polls key findings are:
45% of those surveyed support Jim DeMint for the U.S. Senate.
32% support Inez Tenenbaum.
59% say they will vote to reelect President Bush; Only 32% said they will vote for John Kerry.
23% of those surveyed are undecided on the Senate race.
The Club for Growth PAC has been proud to support Congressman DeMint. This poll shows that his message of tax cuts, fiscal responsibility, personal Social Security accounts and free trade are resonating with Palmetto State voters, said Stephen Moore, president of the Club for Growth. South Carolinians are sending a strong message to Inez Tenenbaum that her brand of liberalism will not stand.

Congrats neighbors, seems you are headed toward a full Republican Senate delegation like us in Georgia.
Now we just need to pull Burr across the finish line and we'll be a solid "R" from Virginia to Alabama.
Excellent. Now if only, here in Calif., we could finally get rid of the idiot BwaBwa Boxer, how happy I would be!
I've lived here in Aiken, SC just a little over a year. The people are wonderful, the weather is delightful and the political climate is perfect. Color me happy!
Aren't we lucky? It's the best town in America.
Would actually be from Virginia to Mississippi!!!
Yeah South!
Then we can start working on LA and AR, which have been slackards in the GOP Southern Revolution.
Don't know if there's any hope for FL. So many Yankee immigrants I don't if it can really be considered southern anymore.
Jim DeMint Upstate Bump...
I would be even better if we can also start to break the Democrat's lock on Florida and Louisianna.
South Carolina is 30% black, no? If these numbers are correct, either Bush is making inroads there or Kerry's support amoung whites there is approaching 0.
From www.SCiWay.net:
"The Census Bureau estimates that in 1999 30% of South Carolina's population was black. This figure includes non-Hispanic blacks and a small number of Hispanic blacks."
I believe that Blacks are historically less likely to vote so. The poll sample population probably reflects that.
If this guy had to guess, he'd answer BOTH!
True, but even taking that into consideration, I doubt Kerry's share of the white vote is more than 15% or so. Assuming Bush does as badly here amoung blacks as he did in 2000.
Question.... where at on that web site is the poll you are posting about? I don't see it.
Well, it's not Ithica, but it'll do....
Just Kidding!
They sent it out as an e-mail alert to subscribers of their newsletter. It may not be posted on the website yet.
"Both" is probably not a bad answer, but I think the white population must be approaching 90% GOP.
Thank you so much for posting these poll results. I hadn't seen any in a while, and I made the mistake of paying attention to Lee Bandy's opinions about the DeMint-Tenenbaum race in the State paper. I know better than to pay him any mind, but I did it anyway.
