  • Iraqi Documents Are Put on Web, and Search Is On [FR's jveritas makes the news]

From the article>>>"All the documents, which are available on fmso.leavenworth.army.mil/products-docex.htm, have received at least a quick review by Arabic linguists and do not alter the government's official stance,"<<<<<

Does a "Quick review" count as intelligence analysis at the NYT? One would think that a true study would require extensive cross-comparisons and collations and so forth between documents, looking for patterns and stuff that may be missed by a quick review.

That appears to be happening now.

I had an interesting experience at the Minnesota State Fair last Friday-That gives me more hope for this election than I thought possible. It is fun to be in a competitive state-finally.
Obviuosly, this is anecdotal but I detected a Passion for W that you simply don't see covered.
I have been attending the State Fair for 20 plus years.
I saw far more political buttons than I have ever seen before-
Surprisingly Bush buttons seemed to outnumber Kerry buttons by at least 5-1 at the minimum-probably more like 7-1.
The Republican booth was FAR busier than I have ever seen it-this was on Friday-usually I go on the weekend when There are more people at the fair.
My wife and I bought out Bush Buttons and left the Republican building.
Within ten minutes, both my wife and I had been approached by one person each-wondering where to get the buttons.
Remember, there were a lot of other people weraing thse buttons.
Based on what I saw, I don't think Karen is blowing smoke.

I see a lot of questioning in this thread about crawling on your belly and hunting.
I do not think that kerry has ever hunted like that, but I have done a lot of belly crawling while hunting waterfowl.
It is a fairly common way of going after geese and ducks.

Speking for me-I don't necessarily have a problem with anyone falling asleep at the funeral-
I did not see Clinton sleeping, but I had just been thinking that if I was there-my wife would be so mad at me-she would be poking and hitting me-
I generally fall asleep within minutes at weddings, funerals, church, speeches-whatever.

    Bush: 60.66%
    Gore: 33.06%

Bob Dole won this state by 7% in 1996 with Perot atracting 12% of the vote<<<<

Yes, I am familiar with that history but I still think we may wake up the morning after the election saying "WTF happened in North Dakota?" regardless of whether Bush is reelected or not.
    1) Any state that elects a solid Democrat slate to congress for the last 20 years is not as solidly in the Republican column as Presidential results indicate-A lot of ticket splitters who have voted for Dems in the past may take it one step farther up.

    2) Iraq-ND has a lot of guardsmen there-I haven't run the numbers but given its small population base it may be one of the sates most directly affected by the war-basically EVERYBODY knows somebody there. A couple of guardsmen were killed recently-If conservative sentiment starts to turn against the war by the war , North Dakota has extra reason to do so.

    3) Central American Free Trade Agreement-Getting a lot of discussion in the region-as I said before Republican sugar beet farmers don't like it.

    4) Anecdotally, the populist winds seem to be a 'blowin.

    >>>Why do you think North Dakota might go for the DemocRAT especially if it's Kerry?<<<

I hope I am wrong, but North Dakota has a populist undercurrent that seems especially strong this year. The Bush push for CAFTA (Central American Free Trade Agreement) doesn't help. Republican Sugar Beet farmers hate it.

And this is an argument for abortion?

    >>>>One of Margaret's abortions turned septic because the placenta remained inside her uterus. "I bled and bled and bled and bled," she recalls. "I had extremely high fever and bone-wracking chills. The thing is, you get euphoric. I was in bed and I was thinking of the old Romans who would get into the bathtub and open their veins."

After Margaret had a convulsion, her roommate went in search of further medical help. "She got a professor of gynecology, who was my lover too, and she hustled him over -- he was not the father. He induced the placenta, and when I delivered the placenta, the bleeding stopped."

The abortion that bothers her most was the one she had after sleeping with her husband before they got married. It was in Philadelphia in the early 1950s. He was an intern at Taylor Hospital where she was a resident. They planned to get married, she didn't want a "shotgun wedding" or the appearance of one, even though he was prepared to have the child and marry her. He performed the abortion. For some reason it didn't take. She was in a quandary -- whether to let a potentially damaged fetus come to term or try aborting again. She chose the latter course and aborted the fetus, a boy, at four months.<<<<<<

I agree 100%-To carry it a little further-As the 4th was being moved for the South-Another Unit, possibly either of the 2 divisions from Europe could have been gotten ready for a Turkey front in case it became available.

In that James Moran town meeting on Iraq about a week ago with Victoria Clarke and a Marine General being inundated with anti-war stuff-One of the protestors referenced the supposed battle plan that involves 800 cruise missiles and all the civilians that will kill.
I wonder if she knows or cares that Clinton used 450 cruise missiles on Iraq in 1998-(I have seen that number here many times)-Really, other than incrementally what is the difference between 450 and 800?

I have a theory that we have a lot more than Special Forces in Iraq. Not sure how defended the Kuwaiti-Iraq border is by the Iraqis and I think that some of the 3ID guys anyway(and maybe some Marines) may be several dozen miles into Iraq-Mainly in the interests of dispersion (in case of Chem Attack) and so forth-
