  • FAU student interviewed about Trayvon Martin before meltdown

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- We now know that 24-year-old Jonatha Carr was fired up about the case of Trayvon Martin when she had her violent outburst during an evolution class at Florida Atlantic University. Martin is the young central Florida teen who was killed by a neighborhood watch volunteer. That volunteer has not been charged in the teen's death and Carr calls that an extreme injustice. While we can't say that's what caused her outburst at FAU Tuesday, we do know she was interviewed about the case the night before.

PEORIA — Sixty or more young people fought and yelled racist comments at residents as they walked down Thrush Avenue toward Sheridan Road on Friday night, according to eyewitness accounts. “They were yelling ‘We’re gonna kill all the white people, this is our neighborhood,’” said Paul Wilkinson, 45, a resident who has lived in the neighborhood for 11 years and witnessed the incident about 11 p.m. He relayed the information over the weekend to police, city council members and at least one local blogger.

The Democrats have a new ad out demagoguing the Medicare issue. Basically it says that only Big Government protects seniors from the indifference of the public. Also there is sexual content. Stay classy, DCCC.
  • Morning Joe Cuts Pastor Jones Before He Has Chance to Respond to Panel

In what had to be the ultimate in condescension and elitism, MSNBC's "Morning Joe" brought Pastor Terry Jones on the show merely to lecture him on Christianity, cutting him off before he could even respond. Co-host Mika Brzezinski explained to him "we don't really need to hear anything else, so thanks."

Jason Levin, the Portland man who caused a ruckus over his plans to "infiltrate" Tea Party protests in an aim to discredit them, teaches in a Beaverton middle school and now faces an investigation by the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission. Melody Hanson, the commission's director of professional practices, said Wednesday that the agency opened an investigation because "there was enough concern that there was some neglect of duty" on the part of Levin.

Suspected Jewish terrorist Yaakov (Jack) Teitel told his interrogators he was an active member of anti-missionary group Yad L'achim for five years, Haaretz has learned. The Bnei Brak-based ultra-Orthodox group has gained notoriety in recent years for its actions against Messianic Jews, whom it perceives as a "sect" seeking to convert Jews to Christianity. The organization also prides itself on "rescuing" Jewish women from relationships with Palestinians and Israeli Arabs. Teitel, a resident of the settlement Shvut Rachel, was charged last November with murdering two Palestinians and attempting to murder three people, including Hebrew University Professor Zeev Sternhell and Ariel...

August, and golden oldies. Serious thought is forbidden this month, which is why every middle-aged pop critic in America is still waxing on Woodstock and talking about how Janis changed the world and Arlo shut down the New York State Thruway, man. The vacuousness of August might explain why the White House thought it was the perfect month to go Kerouacing with Obamacare — ending up in Montana, no less. I wonder how it would play in Paris? After all, this is the month that marks what must surely be one of the most important anniversaries in the history of...

Alan Keyes Arrested at Notre Dame with Radical Anti-Abortion Activists Religion | Fri, May 15, 2009 at 8:11:39 pm PDT Not one of these people uttered a word of protest when Notre Dame University tried to bring radical Islamist Tariq Ramadan to the school, to make him chairman of the Joan B. Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies. But Tariq Ramadan is in favor of the death penalty for homosexuals, so maybe they have that much in common.
  • Africa is giving nothing to anyone -- apart from AIDS

No. It will not do. Even as we see African states refusing to take action to restore something resembling civilisation in Zimbabwe, the begging bowl for Ethiopia is being passed around to us, yet again. It is nearly 25 years since Ethiopia's (and Bob Geldof's) famous Feed The World campaign, and in that time Ethiopia's population has grown from 33.5 million to 78 million today. So why on earth should I do anything to encourage further catastrophic demographic growth in that country? Where is the logic? There is none.
  • Vanity: Requesting FReeper Advice on Friend's Firearms Bust

Fellow FReepers, please forgive this, my first-ever vanity post. I am seeking advice for my friend who was arrested at Spokane Airport for going through airport security with a handgun in his carry-on bag. Background: My friend is a responsible, married, small business owner with absolutely no criminal background. He has a valid Washington State concealed carry permit. On the day of his arrest he had been doing some business requiring him to carry cash, so he had also carried (in a small carry bag) a handgun for personal security. He went home and then went to the Spokane Airport...

BATON ROUGE -- The first thing to remember about Timmy Teepell, Gov.-elect Bobby Jindal's 32-year-old transition leader and soon-to-be chief of staff, is that he can be a bit driven. (snip) In one form or another, he has been preparing for his new job ever since volunteering for his first state legislative race at the age of 15. He has spent the better part of two decades as a foot soldier for conservative Christian causes, raising money, formulating strategy and managing campaigns, culminating with Jindal's historic, 37-point win on Oct. 20. (snip) But none of the appointments that Jindal makes...

Excerpt: WALLACE: We've got about 45 seconds left. There's a lot of talk — and I don't know whether you like it or hate it — that you're a new GOP rock star. What lesson do you think your party should learn from your campaign and your success in Louisiana? JINDAL: Well, my primary — my obligations are obviously to Louisiana. But I think the reason Republicans did so poorly in 2006 wasn't that the country stopped being conservative. It was the party stopped being conservative. It's not enough to want power for the sake of wanting power. You know, we...

The image is burned in the minds of the Michigan Wolverines. The Minnesota Gophers rushing across the field at the storied Big House and grabbing the coveted Little Brown Jug, the oldest rivalry trophy in the nation. It was an embarrassment of epic proportions for those Wolverines, who hadn't relinquished the trophy in 20 years. (snip) "Unfortunately, I was unable to show our team what it looks like," coach Lloyd Carr said. "I love the Little Brown Jug. I think looking back at it, the history, the tradition of that trophy, it's the oldest in college football history, which you...
