Today is the 56th Anniversary of the dropping of the 2nd atomic bomb, known as "Fat Man," on Nagasaki. It was suppose to be dropped on August 11th, but bad weather forecasts backed the date up. On August 14th Japan surrendered. Jesse Owens wins his fourth gold medal of the 1936 Olympics Games in Berlin in the 4x100-meter relay. WASHINGTON - Most Americans support George W. Bush's proposal to let workers invest part of their Social Security taxes, according to a USA TODAY/CNN/Gallup Poll. In the survey conducted Tuesday and Wednesday, 59 percent of 1,059 adults favored the Bush plan. Some analysts believe those numbers are especially bad news for Vice President Gore, whose contention that the plan is "risky" apparently isn't catching on. Ohio State political scientist Herb Asher says of Gore, "How do you scare people about the Bush Social Security plan without scaring them about the economy?"
