This is an amazing video. I'm Lutheran and I sure wish the Lutheran Church had authored this video. So hats off to the Catholic Church. The message is particularly timely. -- Jane Reinheimer Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=D9vQt6IXXaM&hd

    Francis Scott Key
NATIONAL ANTHEM -- STAR SPANGLED BANNER by Francis Scott Key Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming? Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight, O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming? And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there. Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave. On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the...

You know the Seven Last Words of Jesus while he was on the cross. I'm listing them here for your review, and printing them out so you won't have to go look them up. 1. Luke 23:34 -- Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing. 2. Luke 23:43 -- I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise. 3. John 19:26-27 -- When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, "Dear woman, here is your son." And to the disciple,...
  • Today is Maundy Thursday

    04/01/2010 11:37:28 AM PDT · by quintr · 17 replies · 340+ views
In Christian communities all around the globe, the Thursday immediately before Easter is designated Maundy Thursday, or Holy Thursday. The term Maundy comes to us with two different definitions. The first says that it is an old English word that springs up out of the Latin mandatum. This mandate comes from John 13:34-35: A new commandment I give unto you, that you love one another; even as I have loved you, you also ought to love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. One the other hand, some...
  • Health Care Reform Brings Good Lessons in Civics

    03/19/2010 7:40:48 AM PDT · by quintr · 4 replies · 281+ views
Except for the fact that this focus by the Democrat/Liberals has been a giant waste of time, money and resources, it has been good for the United States because it has awakened a strong interest in Civics in this country. For instance, I wasn't sure before how that whole reconciliation process worked. I did know that if a bill started out in the House, it had to meet its match in the Senate and if the two didn't match up, the bill had to go to a conference committee for some fine tuning. Until now, I thought that was what...
  • Tax Cheats Are Abusive Narcissists!

You pay your income taxes, don't you? Well, take a look at all the golden darlings out in Hollywoodland who think they are so special that they are above the law when it comes to paying their taxes: http://www.webcpa.com/channels/celebrity_tax.html Members of this list may surprise you. I will admit that paying all those maids and gardeners and pool boys, not to mention the pilots of their special jets and the maintenance and hangar fees, may be just too taxing. All these things are necessary, after all, because they advertise their Most Ridiculous Specialness. But refusing to pay legitimate income taxes...
  • Good for Kenya's Stand Against Abortion; More on Teen Pregnancy in U.S. and abroad

I saw a poster that struck me as one of the most powerful I'd ever seen relating to the right to life. It was simply a black and white photo of a month old baby. The caption said, If you kill this baby when it's thirty days old, it's murder. If you kill this baby thirty days before it's born, it's an abortion. Once a month or so, we get a bulletin insert at church from the Lutherans for Life organization. In this month's insert, there is a note that "the Kenyan National Council of Churches and the Catholic Church...
  • House Ethics Panel Set To Investigate!

Can something be legal, but not equitable? Can behavior be ethical but not moral? Legal, for instance, is something that is permitted by law. Legal behavior gets its authority from law. Equitable, on the other hand, is something that is fair and just. Ethical behavior is government by rules of conduct recognized by a particular class of human actions or a particular group of people. For instance, an attorney cannot get a speeding ticket in Illinois if that attorney is on his/her way to court. But going down the road at 80 mph at 7 pm would not be ethical...

  • LET'S AT LEAST KEEP OUR VETERANS WARM. QUILTERS OF THE NATION UNITE!

I was so surprised when I learned that some 20+ veterans in one of our local nursing homes were veterans who are in need of lap quilts. So I thought, how quickly can I make a lap quilt? The answer is simple. One afternoon. That's from start to finish -- cutting out the material, sewing nine inch squares into rows, putting the rows together, then putting the back side, the batting, and the quilt top together. I fund material at a local fabric store that has 12" squares of beautiful insignias for each branch of service. By the time I...
  • Congress Leases Vehicles, Then Charges Back to Taxpayers

    09/06/2009 6:15:12 PM PDT · by quintr · 10 replies · 900+ views
Big discussion with a member of Adult Discussin Group at church this morning about congressmen/women who charges their leased vehicles back to their own taxpayers -- even though they get a pretty hefty salary and a ridiculous $1.5 million+ to finance their offices, etc. No one believed me when I said that the congressionals were charging their leased costs back to constituents. I know I read a list of which congressional leased what but can't locate it now. Anyone have such a list. I want to mail it to this guy who was circulating a petition for his favorite congressman.
  • HELP! COMPUTER INFECTED

Yesterday I got a notice that my computer was infected with a worm that gathers email addresses from a compromised computer, also a trojan. I started getting a critical warning on the desktop. I have long been a customer of McAfee and thought that McAfee would keep these kind of vermin off my computer. However, now it appears that problems are getting through. Need any suggestions you may have. My field is analytical chemistry, not computer science. Does anyone have a better source than McAfee. I'm willing to change -- especially if I can get a vendor that provides a...

Lots of stuff going on out there in the world. Tea Parties are going on all over the U.S. Unlike the tea party in Boston Harbor by the revolutionaries a couple of hundred years ago, these tea parties are being mustered by some pretty unhappy taxpayers who believe they've just about had enough! Enough with the bureaucrats. Enough with the fear mongerers. Enough with the congressionals they are calling "generational thieves" because the spending bills coming out of congress is going to create huge debts for generations to come. Protesters at these tea parties are invited to bring tea bags...
  • REGIME CHANGE 2010

It was supposedly the most urgent need of the decade. Had to be at the White House by President's Day. It couldn't even wait another day or two so that the congressionals who were voting on the pork barrel spending bill could have the time to read it, pick it apart and debate the different items in the omnibus bill. The news media didn't even get copies of the bill. After all, we can't take any chances on details leaking out. But you know who did get copies of the bill? The lobbyists. Those are the ones that Obama promised...
  • Obama wants Republican ideas for his new Congressional think tank

Yesterday has already been dubbed as "Bloody Monday." That's because there were some 71,400 job cuts announced by different companies. I was able to find most of them, but certainly not all. Obama heads over to Congress today. He wants to meet with the Republicans, of all things. Well, of course he wants to meet with the Republicans. It's all about the economy. While he was running around on his campaign trail telling everybody how bad the economy was because the Republicans had the White House, he kind of forgot to mention that the Democrats have had control of both...

And so the Obama era begins. I, for one, am looking forward to blaming Obama for everything that goes wrong. The current economic debacle in the United States is just one example. Obama happened to pick a man for his chief of staff who was sitting on the board of either Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac back in the days when these organizations were pretty much ordered by a congress under Jimmy Carter to make mortgages available to every man, woman, child and family dog in this country. Oh, for sure, the Democrats are still trying to blame Bush for...

Once upon a time many years ago, George Washington declined the title of King George. He said he didn't want the Americas to look like the monarchy-ruled England. And so he became known as President Washington. That's all well and good. History worthy of repeating itself. Fast forward to 2008. It looks like the senate is trying to rename itself the House of Lords. For instance, when Hillary moves over from the senate to be the State Department nominee as Secretary, none other than Caroline Kennedy said she wanted Hillary's old job. Kennedy's on a grandstand tour of northern New...
