Big discussion with a member of Adult Discussin Group at church this morning about congressmen/women who charges their leased vehicles back to their own taxpayers -- even though they get a pretty hefty salary and a ridiculous $1.5 million+ to finance their offices, etc.
No one believed me when I said that the congressionals were charging their leased costs back to constituents. I know I read a list of which congressional leased what but can't locate it now.
Anyone have such a list. I want to mail it to this guy who was circulating a petition for his favorite congressman.
Seems to me there were 165 congressionals on the list of what they leased and how much a month was charged back to taxpayers in their districts.
You have a rather unique discussion group for a sunday morning group ... where I worship we discussed the power of the Lord Jesus Christ .... setting Paul free.
No big deal .. topic just struck me as ununusual
I couldn’t agree with you more but this particular individual likes to bait the situation and get his own agenda in there to unload. This morning, he jumped to his request for signers for the congressman’s petition when the discussion leader was talking about the importance of trusting God.
Not sure how this fellow thought that his petition had anything to do with the subject we were discussing. I suspect he’s just lazy and wanted to get multiple signatures in one setting.
What Congressman get paid as a salary is not "hefty." It isn't chicken feed, but it is a very ordinary salary in DC, and any lawyer or lobbyist worth his salt makes 10 times that.
Part of the reason for the underhanded tricks re office expenses, leased cars, etc. is that what they are paid is not enough to actually execute their responsibilities.
At the end of the day, you get what you pay for, and one of the reasons our congress-Critters are pond scum is that we don't pay them much better than pond scum.
No argument that the ones we've got are not worth anything, but you are not going to get better congresscritters until you pay more.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Oh please-—just cars?
There’s an old saying that once they get seated, a Congressman NEVER EVER spends a red cent of his/her own money again.
There are numeous ways they charge ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING to the taxpayers....and they fixed the laws applying to them.....so it’s all legal.
Please take no offense ... I suspected there was more to what you intitially wrote and I almost decided not to say a thing. My first thought though was it was almost sacrilegious, a different focus on what I want to focus on when I attend worship services, and we have enough problems as it is within our churches. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee what comes from the mouths of those around us. It seems like the common sense of “proper time and proper place” is going by the wayside.
We live in the world and are part of the world, I don’t deny that, nor do I believe we as church going people do not have a responsibility to the political climate and aspects of our nation.
But again, it is that “proper time and place” sense we lack. Meddling here ..lol ...I’ve been involved in church work all my life, and I have seen it and heard it over and over .. “so and so joined that church because of the credibility or status it gives him, and it also opens up a new world of contacts” Arghh .... drives me nus.... “I’m not Preaching now .. I am telling the truth” was a tongue in cheek “from the pulpit” words.from a favorite pastor friend of mine. Kind of where I am.
I wish you well
