“There was indeed less alcohol use during prohibition.”
No figure I’ve seen puts it at more than a 40% reduction. And the remaining 60+% enriched violent criminals.
“And dry counties have less DUIs, alcohol related crime, etc. That is a fact.”
Here’s another fact: correlation is not causation. Dry counties differ from wet ones in many ways other than dryness.
“And while there can be such a thing as light drinking, there is no such thing as “light cocaining” or the like. There is no such thing as a safe amount of crack smoking.”
There is such a thing as light cannabis use; I’ve done it and seen it done.
No more than I “push” alcohol by supporting its legality.
What I push is a federal government not exceeding its Constitutional authority; and ending a “war” that manifestly can’t be won without our becoming a Third World police state.
“legalizing things that people use to ruin themselves — while forcing employers and taxpayers to cover the health care costs of everyone — is mental retardation on a historical scale. “
What’s the solution: ban alcohol and unhealthy diets until health care costs are returned to individuals?
