<p>On February 11th, in a speech to members of the DNC Black Caucus, Dean remarked, "You think the Republican National Committee could get this many people of color in a single room?" Then he added: "Only if they had the hotel staff in here."</p>

Can anyone please explain to me how the headline of this article, obviously only what most ignorant Americans will read, reconciles with the last two lines (my red)?   Am I missing something or is this not absolutely amazing?  It's one thing to mislead in an article assuming readers won't question the source, but it's an absolute insult (or validation of) their readers' ignorance to have a headline that is directly contradicted two paragraphs later.   Stewart   Abu Ghraib Probe Points to Top BrassBy Josh White and Thomas E. Yes or No: If there's a chance of saving a hostage's life, should kidnappers' demands be met? This seems like a misleading euphemization of recent Philipino actions. The poll is already heavily 'No' favored, but Wolf needs a message.
  • Clinton's Knopf publishes book on how to kill the President

    07/15/2004 2:30:01 PM PDT · by Mississippi Individual · 11 replies · 807+ views
Alfred A. Knopf Publishing House (a subsidiary of Random House) has recently published a book entitled Checkpoint by Nicholson Baker.  This book tells the story of two high school friends discussing the explicit details of numerous possible assasination plots against the President, not just some fictional President, but our serving President George Walker Bush.In this book, two high school friends discuss numerous potential plans to actually murder President Bush, among them saws, boulders, and the standard bullets. The premise is forgiving though.  After expressing his outrage over Iraq, the main character concludes, "I'm going to kill that bastard."Although amazon.com has no description for...

We now have the #1 and #4 most liberal Senators running for our country's highest offices.  Both support partial birth abortion.   As a Christian, the choice is made clear through support of partial birth abortion, but, as a supporter of our military, their families, your tax rates, free trade, tort reform, doctors, or school accountability, it's not that hard either.   Edwards has won $152 million by suing doctors in his 20 years as a trial lawyer.  This is a man who in 1997 not only had never held public office but had never even considered giving up his personal injury...
  • Michael Moore or Saddam Hussein... you tell me

    07/01/2004 3:10:02 PM PDT · by Mississippi Individual · 5 replies · 100+ views
At least Moore has one advocate.   Stewart   From the WSJ:   Even a monster like Saddam Hussein can occasionally perform a public service without realizing it. Iraq's erstwhile dictator, who appeared at a preliminary hearing before an Iraqi magistrate this morning, is all over the news today, which means anti-American filmmaker Michael Moore is suddenly getting very little airtime.   The only problem is, sometimes Saddam and Moore are hard to tell apart. For one thing, they both have those scraggly beards. And the things they say sound awfully similar:   "The real criminal is Bush."--Saddam, July 1, 2004...

Preface: My name is Stewart Rutledge, please feel free to contact me at swrutled@olemiss.edu to ask me any questions about this encounter. I don't want this to be an unfounded email. ------ A former UN weapons inspector just came to Oxford, MS where I live. She does not live here, but she was visiting a cousin whom I know. When asked the obligatory question, "Did Saddam have WMD's?" she responded an emphatic yes. She stated that everywhere here inspections crew went that they were greeted with abandoned laboratories in which Iraqis would say, "Yes, we made anthrax and had the...

Long story short... high school kid posts conservative messages, has messages torn down, is violently threatened by adults and students, gets appointment with principal, principal starts to realize his freedoms but finally yields to fanatics. Read the whole story, but we must freep this man as he, after seeming reasonable, yielded to the fear of violent opposition. • 9/11 Commission refutes Bush?

As many of you have probably heard in the last few days, many news sources (Washington Post, NY Times, CNN) have stated that the 9/11 Commission has contradicted Bush and his administration directly, saying there is NO link between Iraq and Al Qaeda thus dismissing our primary cause for going to war.   The 9/11 Commission's report can be read in its entirety online, so I simply went to the report and typed 'iraq' in the search box.  Needless to say, numerous results popped up, and I have sampled just a few of the clearest ones to contrast what...

"The anti-Christ is dead. That was my initial reaction Saturday afternoon at a Cincinnati hotel bar to the news of former President Ronald Reagan's death." These are the first two sentences from this article from the Ole Miss student newspaper. The rest only gets worse. Please email the author at: niemeyer@olemiss.edu and artslife@thedmonline.com Email the editor (Emery Carrington) at: ekcarrin@olemiss.edu and editor@thedmonline.edu Then email the paper advisor, the Chancellor (Robert Khayat), the Vice Chancellor (Gloria Staton), and so on... It's just disgusting.
  • Can anyone find a per capita Passion revenue comparison?

    03/14/2004 12:57:09 PM PST · by Mississippi Individual · 1 replies · 121+ views
The Passion is obviously making tons of money, but, from what I understand, it wasn't released on a scale comparable to that of Titanic. Has anyone been able to find out how many theaters in which The Passion is playing as compared to something like Titanic? I'm looking for a revenue/# of theaters type comparison. Any help? (Separate: When a post is bumped, what list does this move the post up on? All listings seem chronological to me, regardless of bumpings.)

As I'm sure has been discussed, the Ole Miss administration has decided to remove our mascot, Colonel Reb, not for offense reasons but for a more athletic mascot. I'm personal friends with our Chancellor Khayat, and he himself told me that it was not a race or offensiveness issue... ha. After explaining to him that an athletic mascot was a joke, he agreed. What we need is support. 94% of the students voted to keep the mascot but to no avail... yet. Please go to www.saveolemiss.com and click on the College Board. The internet allows us to see alot of things that we usually wouldn't have access to and alot of things that people probably wouldn't want us to see.  I was looking at some information about the Palestinian Liberation Organization when I came across some really interesting things.  I think we all know that Arafat is horrible, but he very often makes his 'innocent' claims that all he wants back is his territory, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.  Look at some of the following images and decide what he really wants.   This is a map of Israel.  The pink...

After hearing the "honorable" William Winter speak today at Ole Miss' graduation, I got a little scared about what people value in our country.  It seems that the fashonable thing to say now is that we should all serve our country, "pay back" our state as Winter put it.   The problem is that this service is approaching a requirement in society.  How many of you have been denied a job, position, acceptance because you didn't have enough "community service" or "volunteer work" from helping at an inner-city day care to any form of help for the poor or racial reconciliation?   I...
