I am curious. What does a company lose when it reincorporates offshore? If nothing, why don't all companies do it?

Well, this is national news all right.

Unfortunately those accustomed to driving home up this street kept forgetting about the new stop signs.

Forgetting? Aren't they painted red and have 'STOP' written on them?

Not much room for controversy here. This guy sounds pretty obnoxious, but if he owns the land, he has a right to build a fence, bright pink or whatever color he chooses.

Unless he violates some kind of 'code'. Hint, hint.

I disagree with almost everything Eminem says, but his songs are nonetheless irresistible.

People who don't have the stomach for his music *should* stay away from it.

I would suggest this attack is designed for the express purpose of ratcheting up tension between India and Pakistan.

Don't be naive. Such attacks are carried out with the full connivance of Pak border military and the ISI. If Pakistan really wanted to end cross-border terrorism, they could easily stop terrorist infiltration into Indian Kashmir from Pakistan. On the contrary, Pak border military provides cover to militants sneaking into India.

Bill Maher, had alienated some advertisers, ABC executives and even the White House press secretary, Ari Fleischer, with a comment he made soon after the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11.

Hmm, sounds like Maher was politically incorrect all right.

Funny how conservatives think PC only cuts one way.

But then I'm a liberal so what would I know?

Why only in schools? Let's have zero tolerance in the workplace and home as well. Throw out all the silverware. It's going to be only plastic knives and forks from now on.

"Creation. Any biology, Bible, or other courses at PHC dealing with creation will teach creationism from the understanding of Scripture that God's creative work, as described in Genesis 1:2-31, was completed in six 24-hour days. All faculty for such courses will be chosen on the basis of their personal adherence to this view. PHC does not intend to limit biblically-based discussion of this issue; provided, however, that evolution, 'theistic' or otherwise, will not be treated as an acceptable theory."

I'd be pretty scared if such a school were accredited!

a blood and guts war... the way war should be fought

Sorry, I don't agree. Did you see the video of the Russian soldier being decapitated with a blunt knife by the Taliban in cold blood? There *are* such things as war crimes, and they do deserve to be condemned.

No, as you know, left to themselves in a world of peace, the worst Jews would ever do to people is debate them to death.

Maybe so, but in a world of war, it is a little different. The number of Palestinians killed by Israeli military forces far outweighs the number of Israelis killed by Palestinian terrorists.

Israel would have more of a moral high ground in my mind if it did not bulldoze civilian settlements in retribution for terrorist attacks. Note that the US did not target Afghan civilians after Sept 11 and India did not bulldoze Kashmiri villages in retaliation for the Parliament attack.

The ACLU is often less interested in protecting people from govt intrusion, than in redistributing rights among private citizens (such as employees, at the expense of employers -- thus negating the free market and property rights).

Yes, but to put it another way, it is interested in the rights of the individual.

Free market principles go some way towards protecting individual's rights, but are by no means a guarantee. If that were the case, only communist countries would see peoples' rights violated and we would never see social evils in capitalist societies. Slavery in America or the Nazi genocide of Jews would never have happened.

Liberty is necessary in addition to, and does not necessarily follow from, the free market.

In order to be a liberal you have to believe that to refute a point that is counter to your beliefs, all you have to do is say 'no'.

    Huh?

I don't seek to refute anything. The original post was about what liberals are supposed to believe. I said 'no' about the things I don't believe.

PS: I don't claim to speak for all liberals. No liberals were hurt in the making of this post. Offer valid at participating liberals only.

    I'm a liberal. Let's give this a whack.

You have to believe the AIDS virus is spread by a lack of funding.

    No.

You have to believe that the same public school teacher who can't teach 4th graders how to read, is qualified to teach those same kids about sex.

Yes. *Any* sex ed is better than none at all.

You have to believe that trial lawyers are selfless heroes and doctors are overpaid.

I think *both* are overpaid. In a truly free market they wouldn't be, but both professions go out of their way to keep themselves underpopulated and thus highly priced.

You have to believe that guns in the hands of law-abiding Americans are more of a threat than nuclear weapons in the hands of Chinese communists.

No. BTW, there is no trade-off between the two.

You have to believe that global temperatures are less affected by cyclical, documented changes in the brilliance of the sun, and more affected by yuppies driving SUVs.

    No. Again, there's no trade-off.

You have to believe that gender roles are artificial but being gay is natural.

No. I don't think pink hair is natural either, but I still don't think people who dye their hair deserve eternal damnation.

You have to believe that businesses create oppression and governments create prosperity.

    No; no.

You have to believe that hunters don't care about nature, but pasty, revisionist activists who've never been outside Seattle do.

Most, but not all hunters care about nature. Enviros care about nature too, pasty or not.

You have to believe that self esteem is more important than actually doing something to earn it.

    No.

You have to believe there was no art before federal funding.

    No.

You have to believe there was no housing before HUD.

    No.

You have to believe the military, not corrupt politicians, start wars.

    Not in this country.

You have to believe the free market that gives us 500+ channels, can't deliver the quality that PBS does.

I don't watch a lot of TV, so can't say.

You have to believe that without a federal Department of Energy, there would be no gasoline or electricity.

    No.

You have to believe the NRA is bad, because they stand up for all of the Constitution, while the ACLU is good, because they stand up for a few parts of the Constitution.

I think the NRA is bad because they are a bunch of trigger happy kooks. I think the ACLU is good because it stands for freedom and peoples' rights.

You have to believe that taxes are too low but ATM fees are too high.

I think taxes are OK. ATM fees - who cares? Change your bank if you need to.

You have to believe that Harriet Tubman, Cesar Chavez, and Gloria Steinem are more important to American history than George Washington, General Robert E. Lee or Thomas A. Edison.

    No.

You have to believe that standardized tests are racist, but racial quotas and set-asides aren't.

No. SATs are not racist. Quotas are.

You have to believe second-hand smoke is more dangerous than anthrax or sarin gas.

No. Is there a trade-off here that I am missing? Will cigarette smoke protect me from anthrax?

You have to believe Rosie O'Donnell is brilliant.

    Who is Rosie O'Donnell?

You have to believe that the only reason socialism hasn't worked anywhere it's been tried is because the right people haven't been in charge.

No. You are thinking of communism. The US is pretty socialistic and it works pretty well.
