On March 20, 2003, the United States and a handful of steadfast allies (including our always loyal friends the Brits) went to war in Iraq and deposed one of the most vile dictators on the planet. Within a few short months, however, the glow of the unquestionably brilliant and successful conventional military campaign had faded as US and allied troops faced a brewing insurgency by Sunni militants and Islamic terrorist groups, including al-Qa'ida. Shortly thereafter, the radical Shia cleric Muqtada al-Sadr launched a separate uprising with his army of Shia thugs and terrorists. But now, after five and a half...

The Kremlin's Georgia Gambit Posted by thesurfingconservative at 8/12/2008 9:18 PM There's been a "cease-fire" between Georgia and Russia for a couple of days now, but you sure wouldn't know it if you were out there. Russian army tanks continue to sweep through central Georgia and Russian soldiers—who Moscow has the audacity to call "peacekeepers"—are strolling through the Georgian port city of Poti, setting ablaze Georgian naval vessels. And, with an imperial arrogance that rivaled the old Soviet leadership, Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov told the international press that Georgia can "forget about" regaining control of the two breakaway provinces,...
  • CA Supreme Court Gives Voters the Finger, Allows Gay Marriage

Well, apparently the will of the people doesn't mean much in California, at least not in the eyes of liberal activist judges. The California State Supreme Court today overturned California laws that define marriage as a union between a man and a woman. One of those laws was a law passed by 61% of California voters in 2000 as a ballot proposition. What's particularly galling is that the decision was a 4-3 decision by the judges, so essentially one person's vote in the court was enough to overrule the will of 61% of the California electorate. Effectively the California court...

By Bill RoggioFebruary 8, 2008 6:49 PM Gadhan.jpg Adam Gadahn. One day after a Pakistani newspaper reported al Qaeda propagandist Adam Gadahn may have been killed in the same airstrike that killed al Qaeda leader Abu Laith al Libi, the rumor remains unconfirmed. Speculation over Gadahn's presence at the al Qaeda safe house in North Waziristan began on Jan. 29, the day of the airstrike. An unnamed US official denied Gadahn was killed in the strike. But on Feb. 7, The News reported, based on statements from Western sources, that Gadahn was killed in the airstrike. Gadahn was believed to...
  • What's at Stake in 2008

Well, 2007 is all but over. We've seen many important developments this year. The most important development of the year was by far President Bush's surge of troops to Iraq, led by General Patraeus, which turned the tide in Iraq, despite all the naysayers in the media and Congress. Insurgent violence in December was 60 percent lower than a year earlier. US casualties have dropped dramatically. Iraqis are returning rather than leaving. Businesses are open in Baghdad. Al-Qa'ida has been driven from its sanctuary in Al Anbar province. A dramatic turn of events to be sure. But, 2008 looks to...
  • If Liberals Wrote Christmas Stories

Here's what Christmas stories would look like if liberals wrote them: - "Rudolph the Red-Nosed and Environmentally Friendly Reindeer": In this "holiday" treat, Rudolph and Henry the Transgender Elf overcome rejection for their differences and lead Santa and his team of organically-fed reindeer as they fly around in their hybrid-powered sleigh, delivering nonviolent holiday toys—assembled by Santa's multicultural and unionized crew of elves—to boys and girls around the world without regard to children's naughty/nice status, since "good" is culturally dependent. - "A Charlie Brown Holiday": Charlie Brown is tasked with directing the play for his school's Winter Season celebration. When...
