LAREDO, Texas — An 18-year-old illegal alien from Mexico pleaded guilty Monday to conspiring to transport illegal aliens from China and Brazil within the United States. Samuel Vasquez-Morales, from Mexico, entered a guilty plea June 10 before U. S District Judge Marina Garcia Marmolejo. Judge Marmolejo set Vasquez-Morales’ sentencing for Oct. 16. At that time, Vazquez-Morales faces up to 10 years in federal prison. Police and federal agents raided homes in Dallas, Fort Worth and Lancaster on Tuesday as part of a major human trafficking investigation, authorities said. One man and two women were accused of operating a prostitution operation. Police said they encountered 11 women when they raided a home in Fort Worth and four others in Dallas. They will be treated as victims and offered counseling, police said.

The arrest of Ahmed al-Mughassil, who was described by the FBI in 2001 as the leader of the armed wing of the Saudi Hizbullah group, was one of the FBI’s most-wanted terrorists. Saginaw [TX] police are investigating a fatal shooting Monday afternoon in the 200 block of Straw Road. Investigators said the homeowner, firefighter David Wilson, opened fire around 2:30 p.m. after interrupting a burglary in progress. The gunshot victim was not identified.
