I'm embarrassed to admit that I have forgotten most of what I knew about Unix, so maybe some of you guys can help. I have a client running a manufacturing process with SCO Unix. (Don't ask why.) They had a hard disk crash on the primary disk last week. They have installed the new disk and reinstalled SCO and their application. Some critical data still exists on the secondary drive. They need to mount the drive so they can access the data. I recall that there is a Unix "mount" command, but I don't recall the syntax or even if...

I believe this is the first full weekend with the new airline security measures in full swing. The bleeding heart liberals and media twits should now be completely satisfied with our new mousetrap: 1) I went through security at DFW this afternoon. It was substantially tighter than at any time in recent memory. Laptop and cell phone were removed from bag/belt and passed through scanner separately; Personnel scanners were throttled up so tightly as to detect everything - real and imagined. After failing to pass the walk-thru scanner, I was padded down and "wanded" extensively. The device was offended by ...

There was a time when Sears, Kmart, Service Merchandise, Montgomery Ward and others were retailing power houses. Now Montgomery Ward is gone, Service Merchandise is closing its doors ASAP, Kmart is expected to file bankruptcy soon and Sears is remodeling/restructuring (one more time) to replace their cashier-in-every-department concept with common checkouts. Other major retailers such as Zodys died long ago. If you look at the product lines/mix of the above retailers it's obvious that there is a lot of overlap. While they have their own private label brands (Kenmore, etc.), many of the same or very similar products are/were available ...

Today Fox has run a clip several times of Geraldo in Somalia in front of the now destroyed American embassy where a gunfight is taking place. The title of the clip was "Duck and Cover". Ostensibly, according to Geraldo, the locals were having a turf battle over a block in the neighborhood. Initially, Geraldo stays behind some protective cover, then he slowly walks out in the street, then turns and returns back near where he started. My question today for the FR Brain Trust: if this gun battle was actually taking place, why was this fool (Geraldo) sauntering out into ...

Take all American women who are within five years of menopause. Train us for a few weeks, outfit us with automatic weapons, grenades, gas masks, moisturizer with SPF15, Prozac, hormones, chocolate, and canned tuna - drop us (parachuted, preferably) across the landscape of Afghanistan, and let us do what comes naturally. Think about it. Our anger quotient alone, even when doing standard stuff like grocery shopping and paying bills, is formidable enough to make even armed men in turbans tremble. We've had our children, we would gladly suffer or die to protect them and their future. We'd like to get ...

A friend and I took the afternoon off, built a couple of signs and showed up at the SMU protest rally for Justice Scalia at 3:30PM. The opposition had 30-40 anti-Scalia protesters with LOTS of media attention. (WBAP, CBS Satelite truck, etc.) Several were dressed in black robes with signs saying "Un-Justice Scalia", etc. Campus security was there in abundance, so we approached one of the officers and asked where we should stand. He advised us that since we didn't have a permit, we wouldn't be allowed to protest. I asked if we could still get a permit, and he ...

A NY Times article entitled Morgan Stanley Says it 'Clearly Made a Mistake' by Inviting Clinton to Speak makes me wonder what, if anything, Philip J. Purcell, Chairman of Morgan Stanley, donated to Clinton, Hillary and/or the DNC.

Last night my eight year old daughter was sitting in my easy chair waiting for me to finish up something on the computer before I tucked her in for the night. The FOX news channel was playing in the background, as it usually is, but I wasn't paying too much attention to either the TV or my daughter. Totally breaking my train of thought, I heard my daughter say "Why don't some people want a tax cut?" I said "Huh?" and she repeated "Why don't some people want a tax cut?". In my typical curt fashion, I said that many ...

This article was in the San Diego Union Tribune on December 6, 2000. It was in the editorial section under "Letters" that people contribute on different news events. Vice Presidential candidate Sen. Joseph Lieberman recently asked the question, "What will we tell our children if every vote is not counted? "Here is the response of one citizen: "As a former teacher, I have been concerned about Joe Lieberman's question, "What will we tell our children?" What we should, and must, tell our children is that if they fail to mark the right answer on an exam, or do not fill ...

I can't express my outrage for Trent Lott's power sharing moves today without expletives. This bozo needs to go. I hereby commit my time, money and talent to ensure that we find a good candidate to run against this SOB.

This morning there was a post on FR from some liberal twit regarding the FreeRepublic lawsuit. Contrary to the opinions expressed in that post (which has been yanked), FreeRepublic has been an un-equivocal success. I thought I'd itemize just a few of the major successes: 1) Clinton was impeached, in large part to FreeRepublic activism as fully acknowledged by many of the House Managers. 2) Bush was elected and the attempts to steal the election by Gore were thwarted in part by Freepers with the hugely successful, nationwide, Sore Loserman campaign. There has probably never been a more successful grassroots ...

The Dallas NBC affiliate just carried a fat lady singing. I didn't catch it myself, except for a few seconds, but my wife and son were sure that it was in front of the Gore residence. According to them, the singer was draped in some sort of banner with a radio station's call letters, which presumably is the one we heard about on FR earlier in the day.

If Trent Lott has any delusions about being able or willing to "share power" with Democrats after what they have selfishly put us through in the last four weeks, he better re-think his own vulnerablilities. He has already participated in one treasonous act i.e. the non-conviction of Bill Clinton. Lott doesn't have any more checks to cash. FReepers everywhere should be telling this dim bulb where the bear $hits.

It occurs to me that the US Supreme Court has other options. What if Rehnquist called Gore and advised him that they were going to rule against him unless he concedes? That would save the court and the nation lots of anxiety.
