The facts are stark – age, according to the CDC, is the most determinant factor in death from Covid-19. So why is California ignoring much of this population in its distribution plan of Covid-19 vaccines? Dr Erica Pan, Acting State Health Officer, leads the vaccine distribution efforts for the State of California. To date the state has announced the first 2 phases of vaccine distribution. The state has prioritized vaccinations of nursing home residents but as yet has failed to address the balance and majority of the state’s elderly who are NOT in nursing homes.

Hews Media Group-Community News has obtained a lawsuit filed in the California Central US District Court claiming that former US Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, a current candidate for the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, was provided thousands of dollars worth of free private jet travel without declaring the trips on the federal government required forms, paid for by the powerful International Union of Operating Engineers based in Pasadena during the same period she was undergoing confirmation hearings to become part of President Barack Obama’s Cabinet.....

Want to see what's wrong with the conventional-wisdom memo circulating around CNN about the need to inject more opinion and passion into cable news? Watch Chris Matthews' interview with Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus. Even if you agree with the MSNBC host's points, his sputtering line of attack -- and repeated interruptions -- would leave any casual viewer feeling like the guest had been spit on by his host. Moreover, the exchange was so uncomfortable the "Morning Joe" team turned it into a big joke, losing any content or context in the legitimate questions Matthews raised. And Tom Brokaw...

SACRAMENTO — California’s Department of Motor Vehicles will start issuing driver’s licenses to those here illegally who qualify for President Obama’s two-year stay of deportation, potentially reigniting political battles in the state Capitol over undocumented immigrants. “We’re not changing the law. We’re not bending the rules,” said Armando Botello, a DMV spokesman. Botello said state law allows DMV to grant driver’s licenses to those who have what’s called an “employment authorization document.” “It’s one of the documents accepted for years as proof of legal presence. We will accept that,” Botello said. Botello said DMV did not consider the political controversy...

[photo at link] On a day that some gay-rights activists are planning a "National Same-Sex Kiss Day," a Chick-fil-A in Torrance was vandalized overnight with hateful graffiti. Chick-fil-A employees were greeted Fridays morning with the words "Tastes like hate" scrawled in large black lettering mimicking the chain's advertising across the back wall of the restaurant at 182nd Street and Hawthorne Boulevard in Torrance. With media helicopters hovering overhead and police officers on the scene, one employee said, "I'm just trying to sort everything out."

For months, prosecutors have been investigating allegations that a former county appraiser lowered tax bills for wealthy Westside property owners in a bid to drum up campaign cash for his boss, Los Angeles County Assessor John Noguez. Now, that corruption probe has expanded to include tax reductions allegedly made by the appraiser long before Noguez was elected assessor in November 2010. In fact, the appraiser, Scott Schenter, is suspected of engineering improper tax breaks for nearly a decade, according to documents obtained by The Times and interviews with former co-workers. Retired assessor's office supervisor Dale Edgington said he warned several...

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee issued an apology to casino mogul and prominent Republican donor Sheldon Adelson on Thursday, after the billionaire threatened to sue the organization over comments insinuating he profited from prostitution at his Chinese resorts. "In press statements issued on June 29 and July 2, 2012, the DCCC made unsubstantiated allegations that attacked Sheldon Adelson, a supporter of the opposing party," the DCCC said in an e-mail released Thursday. "This was wrong. The statements were untrue and unfair and we retract them. The DCCC extends its sincere apology to Mr. Adelson and his family for any injury...

Freeman’s quick climb up the ranks of the powerful Service Employees International Union burnished his reputation as an effective advocate for the disadvantaged, a man who helped improve the lot of about 190,000 workers paid about $9 an hour to provide in-home care for the infirm. On Tuesday, however, Freeman was indicted on federal charges of stealing from those workers to enrich himself, including by billing the union for costs from his Hawaii wedding.

As Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa prepares to take the gavel for the Democratic National Committee’s national convention in Charlotte this summer, Yahoo! News asked whether the termed-out mayor could be the nation’s first Latino president. Villaraigosa assured his interviewer that he has no interest in national office, but he does have another job in mind after 2013, when he will be forced from Getty House. "The job I've said to people I would like is I would like to be governor of the state of California," he said.

[Try not to Laugh] LOS ANGELES—When Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa gavels the 2012 Democratic National Convention into session in Charlotte, N.C., this September, his role as prominent cheerleader for President Barack Obama will be clear. It is less clear, for now, if Villaraigosa has designs on the ultimate convention role in 2016—taking center stage to accept his party's nomination on the final night. Despite running the country's second largest city and coming from the fastest growing voting demographic in America, the mayor himself is quick to wave off talk of a presidential run...

Steve Capus, President of NBC News, continues to tolerate MSNBC’s unprofessional, insensitive, and now unpatriotic ways. This weekend MSNBC host Chris Hayes insulted parents and families of American soldiers whose sons gave their lives in service to their country by saying their military service and death at the hands of an enemy does not automatically qualify them to be a hero. Hayes said calling these soldiers who gave their lives for our county “heroes” almost provides “justification for more war.” The conservative blogosphere exploded this weekend and last night Chris Hayes issued a weak apology. Not only was this insulting...
