I worked a poll yesterday in California (my first time.) I was the person who checked people in. Anybody could have walked up, said they were anybody on the list, and gotten to vote. No ID required. No nothing. Doesn't seem right.
I worked in the newsroom with Paul at Channel 7 back in the '80's. A truly wonderful man! My heart goes out to his family, KATV, and the woman's loved ones. A true tragedy.
Yes. The book "Fatima in Lucia's Own Words: Sister Lucia's Memoirs", p. 31, "...On days like that, our only nourishment consisted of pine nuts, little berries, mushrooms..." We purchased the book in Fatima and heard the theory while we there.
When I lived in Louisiana 30 yrs. ago (Baton Rouge & N.O.), Shreveport was considered the conservative part of the state. North Louisiana was conservative, south Louisiana was liberal. Has that changed? (Go Tigers!!)
Amen! Best thing here in my San Diego neighborhood was the quiet!! No frickin' leaf blowers blasting thru the condo complex all day long. A very nice May Day.
My ex was a Vietnam Army vet -- 2 tours, one as a platoon leader. We married in '80 and it was still too painful for him to talk about, except after too much beer. He spoke of being mistreated when he landed in Los Angeles ("baby killer", etc.) -- said it was a bummer that they flew home non-stop, no way to get out of uniform before they landed. He always resented Vietnam vets being portrayed as drugged out nutcases -- said research would show nutcases were already so, before they got to Nam.
If the Golden Gate cameras had been rolling in 1970, they'd have captured the suicide leap of Evan Thomas, Valedictorian, Monte Vista High, Class of '69. His death haunts my husband, his classmate, to this day -- don't need to see it on film.
I spent the '80's in Arkansas and had numerous "legal" friends who happened to speak Spanish (foreign students, etc...). They told me then that Tyson was hiring illegals and that the poultry plants in NW Ark. were full of them.
I just attended a speech by Lech Walesa at San Diego State Univ. -- now THAT was a great speech! Funny, insightful and thought provoking. A bit nostalgic, too.
