YAKIMA — In an unexpected move, the state Republican Party on Saturday adopted a platform that states children of illegal immigrants should not be allowed to become United States citizens. The platform, at least with respect to the children of illegal immigrants, goes further than measures currently under consideration in the Congress. The 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution recognizes citizenship for all persons born in the United States.

While the issue has sparked a rancorous debate, there has been little discourse about the many ramifications of such a program. Portions of an Al-Qaeda training manual have been posted on the Web by the Department of Justice. It was found by British police in Manchester during the search of an Al-Qaeda terrorist's home. The manual was subsequently introduced at a trial in New York. The manual has been translated into English. Only portions of it are available. Those parts deemed helpful to would-be terrorists have been deleted. The stuff on the Web is common-sense instructions for undercover people. The Anchorage Daily News reports a moose on the Denali Highway stomped to death the lead dog of an Iditarod musher. Ramey Smyth’s as he zipped the dog into his sled basket with the early evening fading into a 50 degree-below-zero night. “I told him I loved him and not to forget me,” Smyth said. Mushers have reported numerous such encounters with moose in Alaska. Hospitals losing millions from non-paying Mexican Nationals are now sending collections agents across the border. At University Medical Center, both legal and illegal immigrants racked up $16 million in unpaid bills last year. A huge debt, collection agents are now tracking patients down in Mexico to pay. If patients can't pay, it's written off as charity. If they can afford a payment plan, but refuse, agents inform them the hospital will turn their name over to Immigration and Naturalization and Border Patrol agents.
