WASHINGTON — Consumer spending was flat in May with incomes dropping for a second month as the impact of the government's pandemic stimulus payments waned. Inflation, however, posted a sizable gain with prices excluding food and energy jumping by the largest amount in nearly three decades. The flat reading for consumer spending in May represented a marked slowdown following gains of 0.9% in April and a 5% surge in March, the Commerce Department reported Friday. The spending surge in March had been fueled by distribution of payments of up to $1,400 per individual from a $1.9 trillion stimulus bill, the...

RALEIGH, N.C. — The state is tracking roughly $81 billion in federal pandemic stimulus spending – so much that it started a new office last year to keep up with everything. Lots of this federal money was spent last year, on stimulus checks that went direct to families, forgivable loans to keep businesses afloat, virus testing, vaccine research and a $10 billion boost to unemployment checks that, at one time or another, went out to nearly a million people. But there are billions left, and that money will be spent over a span of years. Among other things, the state...

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Although it may feel like North Carolina hit a crucial benchmark in returning to normalcy from COVID-19 this week, Dr. Anthony Fauci is voicing concern for states that have pulled back on regulating limits on social life. In an interview with "Meet the Press" host Chuck Todd, Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, advised caution for what he feels is prematurely lifting restrictions among some states. North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia all eased major restrictions on Friday, as did Massachusetts, Arkansas and Wyoming. Several other states eased some level of...

The final report of the sexual misconduct of the late Ravi Zacharias was released last week. Many of us knew the findings would be devastating due to a preliminary report issued several months ago, and even before that report, credible accounts started to surface about his personal lifestyle, rife with sexual dalliances. Reading the report makes us shake our heads in disbelief. How could someone who came across as brilliant, gifted, and credible lead a secret life of such utter slavery to sexual sin? What do we say?

A man speaking to the crowd said, "We're gonna reinstate the constitution. We're going to reinstate the Bill of Rights."
