City Still in Recession Job market remains bleak in first quarter By Randi F. Marshall STAFF WRITER July 3, 2003 New York City's economy remained in recession during the first quarter of 2003 - the ninth straight quarter of contraction. The Gross City Product, a measure of the city's economic activity, fell at an annual rate of 2.7 percent in the first quarter, City Comptroller William C. Thompson Jr. said yesterday. That's compared with a decline of 4 percent in the fourth quarter of 2002, indicating that perhaps the city's economic contraction is slowly coming to an end. At the...

Paul Harvey And now the rest of the story. Forgotten Facts?? (Conveniently) Back in 1969 a group of Black Panthers decided that a fellow Black Panther named Alex Rackley needed to die. Rackley was suspected of disloyalty. Rackley was first tied to a chair. Once safely immobilized, his friends tortured him for hours by, among other things, pouring boiling water on him When they got tired of torturing Rackley, Black Panther member Warren Kimbo took Rackley outside and put a bullet in his head. Rackley's body was later found floating in a river about 25 miles north of New Haven, ...

Shell Game Clinton says U.S. is paying off its debt; it's really just trading in one kind for another. President Bill Clinton isn't exactly lying to you when he says Washington is taking in so much revenue these days that it can wipe out the federal debt by the year 2012. But the accuracy of his forecast does depend on how you define the word "debt." And the way Clinton is defining it does much to mislead Americans about the serious long-term fiscal situation this country faces. The president said last week, in forecasting budget surpluses of $1.3 trillion during ...

Talk about reverse descrimination! Our 4 year old granddaughter attends a Pre-K in Port Jefferson. The parents were told that there would be no Halloween or Thanksgiving parties because there are foreign children and religions that do not celebrate these American holidays. I'm sure if American children were in another country, celebrations would not be cancelled to accomodate them. We're allowing these groups to take advantage at our expense. At last glance, this is America. This could have been a learning experience for the other children.
