Speaking of draft, I don't know why people on this board are so against the draft. I mean I figure it gives everyone a chance to serve their country and potentially make the ultimate sacrifice. I figure if you love the USA and certainly in the case of this war, if you agree with it, you shouldn't have an issue with the draft!

I'm personally all for it and don't think the military quality will suffer a lick because the standards will ensure that the best people are put in the best positions.

Besides I would hate to support a war but not support the opportunity for everyone in the country to fight for their country in a war that they support.

I for one make mistakes - honest ones. Some of them are even verbal gaffs. As a Christian, I have no problem with an apology - especially if it is issued before they are caught. Not like Ted Haggard claiming to not know a man and then when he's caught apologizing.

I disagree with you in that if he had apologized quickly and immediately after making his verbal gaff, it wouldn't solve the problem but it would help. He didn't, he fought and argued and passed blame, and I think Kerry lost all respect by only apologizing after he was caught and pressured to by many from the opposition and his own party.

I have to admit - I have been very disappointed with the whole Iraq situation - as a Patriot I felt our country had no business there and we should have nuked Afghanistan. I was mad at Bush and I voted against him last election because I felt N Korea and Bin Laden presented more of a threat than Saddam ever did.

These last comments of Kerry's however are beyond the pale. Were he to have apologized immediately and genuinely that maybe, maybe would have mollified my anger somewhat. But he didn't ... he is an arrogant SOB who needs to learn some humility and never ever should be considered for President by any party. Frankly, he should resign his Senate post or at the very least not run for re-election. To come out fighting after such an obvious gaff that only deserved the words "My goodness, I screwed up and I am so so sorry ... that is not what I meant to say or imply at all", is the sign of someone who would have happily made a mistake of invading a wrong country or otherwise and then claim he is right.

He has no character and will not tell the truth. He is a slimy politician just like the lot of them. The only problem is he attacked the military which is risking life and limb to execute commands given them by a democratically elected government - right or wrong - they do not choose the missions and deserve the utmost of respect and honour always. Theirs is the toughest job and least well compensated and they don't need an arrogant guy like Kerry putting them down while being paid from their tax dollars.

Pretty certain the US armed forces and CIA are capable of doing both. Aren't you?

Watch what you say ... Our President has on more than one occasion claimed to be doing God's bidding. You wouldn't qualify him as such would you?

Be more precise ... another jackass democratic politician.

To be honest, if the page is 18, 17, or 16 and he is a male - with Foley being a 40 to 50 something year-old male, I personally think it is gross.

I have been told by some on this post that age of consent may be 16 or whatever. I just think the whole homosexual thing between a highschool student and a 50 year-old man is gross - especially when the man is essentially his boss - illegal or not.

Frankly, I had this problem with Clinton - I did not think he broke the law but I felt he besmirched the office of the Presidency so significantly that if he were an honourable man he would have stepped down.

I'm not too fond of the homosexual thing period, frankly and in this world today, I'm preparing to get skewered for saying that on a bulletin board ... even if it is FR.

He should be in jail or forced to undergo treatment because he is a grown man talking sexually to young boys outside of a health education class.

This is different from "free speech" this guy is perverting kids of the same gender ... that's just foul.

That's easy. Its politics and Hastert shouldn't resign. The most prominent organization calling for his ouster I thought was the Washington Times however.

At least he needs to have been found to be willfully negligent. My guess is no one on either side would have guessed the extent of Foley's wanton depravity. And if Hastert had come out and said "You're fire" a year ago to him could you imagine the uproar from the Gay lobby and the human rights dems?

No chance ... he couldn't say anything unless he had a smoking gun ... if they couldn't fire Clinton for doing the deed, they certainly can't fire Hastert for not knowing much about a deed he had nothing to do with. Of course if they find out he covered up - toast him.

    Sorry,

I was actually going after Howlin because he was defending Fowley in another post earlier. I saw his name and just had to respond.

I realized my mistake after clicking post.

    Apologies

Doesn't have to be a crime. It's morally repugnant. Quite defending the act - you sound like a liberal in every post.

Abortion isn't necessarily a crime but it's wrong too isn't it?

    Howlin,

Just because something is not a crime does not mean that is is also not morally repugnant.

    The guy is disgusting.

I took you on defending Foley in another post. You don't think its weird that he wants to diddle boys even though he is a man; and that he is going after kids?

Does that need to be a crime before you get upset? Is that your brand of conservatism? It sure as heck isn't mind. Somethings are just wrong and this Foley incident is one of them!

I thought this was a conservative board.

I can't believe I am being called a prude for my reaction to this.

I'm 30 and now I really understand how older generations must feel.

    I am shocked.

No one has denied this story. And frankly if someone came out with a story about me being a pedophile I would be standing in the streets saying HELLL NOOOO. This guy checked into rehab!!! Is that sign of innocence over such a scandalous charge? Gimme a break you apologist.

I will give the Taliban credit for this. Were this to have happened on their watch, his head would be rolling somewhere in the dust.

So by your leftist logic, until a pedophile has had a trial, they are innocent until proven guilty and you would be happy to have them babysit your kids and would probably shout DISCRIMINATION if someone said I know the verdict isn't in yet but I'd rather not have you work in a position of authority over children. I'm a parent and I totally disagree with you cavalier attitude towards this.

You sound like a leftist Dem troll.

Oh I get it now, two wrongs make the second wrong defensible.

Frankly, I just learned about that story when this one broke and I was pretty grossed out and disgusted. I think that happened in the 80s and the D was from Mass.

Wrong then, wrong now, always disgusting.

That is a good point. I assumed when the kid said he had homework, and talked about living at home, and doing lacrosse and waltzing - I did assume he was in highschool. Could have been University and he could also have been in his 20s or 30s or whatever. Personally I doubt it.

Having said that, I will probably be called a homophobe but frankly the gender aspect of it bothers me to.

You're right you caught me. I think what Foley did is disgusting, worse than what Clinton did, and morely repugnant.

I got two kids and I would flip if a 50 year old went after my 16 year old daughters. I would be stunned and incredibly ticked if a 50 year old man went after my sons!

It's not "bias" that is showing - I'll shout it out loud and clear.

Wow I am stunned by the level of permissiveness on this board particularly from you. You sound like a Liberal.

My guess is you are for Gay Marriage and against parental consent for people under 18 for abortions.

The way you point out semantic arguments on something that is so cut and dry f-ed up, you also agreed with Clinton when he asked "it depends on what the definition of is is" during Lewinskygate.

You also wouldn't mind one bit if a 50 year old man offered to diddle your 15 year old-son via email or otherwise.

I myself would call him a pedophile and offer to shoot him.

    Hey look,

At the time of the Clinton impeachment, I personally felt that he was not guilty of a crime and felt there was no locus standii to have him removed from office on the basis of breaking laws - he argues the perjury stuff and essentially got off on a technicality.

That said, I do feel the right and honourable thing for him to have done, and his party and the opposition should have demanded it, was for him to step down.

Any CEO who did what he did would have been nailed with an harassment suit and the shareholders would have demanded his ouster. What ticked me off is he did not have the honour to step down; and the Democrats did not see the need to honour the office by even requesting him to step down.

The office of the Presidency was forever tarnished in my opinion. At least Nixon, when he was exposed, resigned.
