Attorney: Foley Was Molested as a Teen by a Clergyman

WASHINGTON — Former Rep. Mark Foley was molested between the ages 13 and 15 by a clergyman, his attorney Mark Roth told reporters late Tuesday.

Foley also wants Americans to know that he is a gay man but he never had sexual contact with a minor, Roth said. Foley was admitted on Saturday night to a mental health facility, where he will remain for at least 30 days.

Roth said Foley wanted to release the name and religious affiliation where his alleged molestation occurred, but was advised by civil counsel to delay naming names at this time. However, details of the clergyman, the timeframe and the situation will be released when counsel advises Foley to do so.

He was not pro gay or anti gay. I don't know his abortion policies

If you don't know what you're talking about, why are you posting and misleading people?

Doesn't have to be a crime. It's morally repugnant. Quite defending the act - you sound like a liberal in every post.

Abortion isn't necessarily a crime but it's wrong too isn't it?

The Adam Walsh Child Protection And Safety Act Of 2006 H.R. 4472

I've read the law. Nowhere does it criminalize sex chats with minors on the Internet. Please look at it here and tell me where I'm wrong.

Gosh, do you suppose he will write a book about it?

Yeah, perhaps it'll be an inspirational book for kids with the message, "You can become a US Congressman even if you're an alcoholic gay pervert!". Maybe he can get Barney Frank to write the forward.

But which state law would apply? The law where the message originated (FL) or the state where it was received (LA or CA)?

Good question. One would think Florida could apply its own laws to something that happened in their state regardless of where the victim lives, but I really don't know for sure.

Please go back and read my post. The top sentence is a quote pasted in from Howlin', the bottom are my thoughts. I don't see how you can mistake this for defending anything.

Under the definitions of the Walsh act, as I see it, a sexual offense could include asking a minor to engage in a sexual performance or action ( would that include inciting masturbation?) The perp need not be present.
Of course, the Walsh Act was passed this year, and might not be binding for acts pre-passage.

On May 24, 2003, the Clearwater Business Association showed their continued support of the democratic process by hosting a brunch in the Fort Harrison’s Crystal Ballroom, for one of the leading representatives in Washington, Congressman Mark Foley.

Over 150 people came to hear his views on taxes, education and national security, and they were able to pose questions to him.

Forget the chainsaw way too noisy. I have a nice set of lopping shears that will take care of the job. They are a bit dull, it has been a long pruning season. ;-)

Yeah, you're right. Plus, the chain saw's too fast.
