I was at the first-anniversary memorial in Shanksville, PA, in 2002. I have made 40 wallpapers from the photos I took that day, and a screen saver of the wallpapers. Flight 93 Memorial Wallpapers(I posted this a while back, in the bloggers forum, but I don't know how many people saw it.)

Flight 93 Memorial Wallpapers & Screen SaverIn honor of the fifth anniversary. Two weeks from today [Mon. Aug. 28] will mark five years since 9/11. I was at the first-anniversary memorial for Flight 93 in Shanksville, PA, Wednesday, September 11, 2002. I have made desktop wallpapers out of 20 or so of the photos I took there, and a screen saver out of the wallpapers. The forty wallpapers are on flickr.com; the screen saver, on rapidshare.de. Wallpapers The first 15 are "straight" photos; the remaining 25 are "artistic" renderings.... To download any of them to your computer, click on the...

[Diana Irey is the Republican challenger to Rep. John Murtha for the 12th Congressional district in Pennsylvania. As a follow-up to Meet Diana Irey, I talked with her again, Tuesday, August 22. It was more of a conversation than an interview, strictly speaking, so I have left myself out of the transcript here, except to add some general headers and a few bracketed comments to provide some context.] The Campaign We have two headquarters: this one in Monongahela and one in Johnstown. We’re close to a thousand volunteers. We’re at all the fairs. We’ve been door-knocking every weekend. And we’re...

I was at the first anniversary memorial for Flight 93 in Shanksville, PA, September 11, 2002. I took more than 100 photos, because I figured it would never look the same again. I have made wallpapers and a (Windows) screen saver out of 20 or so of them. And I would like to get them spread around in time for the fifth anniversary. I have 40 wallpapers altogether, amounting to 6.88 MB total size. Individually, they average around 175 KB. And the screen saver install executable is 7.88 MB. I am lone blogger, and I simply cannot financially afford a...

The Monongahela River winds through the western foothills of the Appalachian Mountains from West Virginia through Pennsylvania to Pittsburgh, where it joins the Allegheny River to form the Ohio. On its way, the Mon passes the City of Monongahela in Washington County, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1769, the community of 5,000 maintains an active business district. Many historic buildings line Main Street, whose current residents take obvious pride in maintaining and presenting their homes. At the western end of town, a small park featuring a gazebo is the site of everything from weddings to the recent Flag Day ceremony. The “aquatorium”...

Something Wicked This Way ComesWhat else is left? A couple of weeks ago, I started to think about writing this. At the time, I thought I'd be going way out on a limb. Since then, other bloggers have broached the subject, one way or another, directly or indirectly. One week from today, the results of the general election will be greeted with violence — serious violence, sustained to some extent, and more-or-less coordinated and organized. You see, the venerable Democratic Party — the party of Franklin Delano, John Fitzgerald, and Hubert Horatio — is already well on the way to...
