----snip---- The key question can be stated quite clearly: Are the leaders of the LCWR still on the reservation? These prelates raise the matter more delicately, but it is clear enough that they are driving at that question. Is the LCWR working cooperatively with the Vatican, in service to the universal Church? This should be an easy question to answer. If the LCWR cannot answer affirmatively—quickly, emphatically, without reservations—then we already have the answer. But the LCWR is not accustomed to giving simple answers to simple questions, largely because the American bishops are not accustomed to asking them. Boston’s Cardinal...

The United States is in the midst of a major investigation by the Vatican’s Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF) into the group that represents 80% of the country’s 57,000 nuns. “The problem is that it is now hard to distinguish between what the nuns do and what lay social workers do,” said Ann Carey, a Catholic journalist and author of Sisters in Crisis: The Tragic Unraveling of Women’s Religious Communities. “This is not about one or two specific incidents but a general drift away from Catholic belief.” The CDF is the Vatican’s toughest office, the group charged...

In a statement released Friday, Roman Catholic Womenpriests-USA says it supports the LCWR's response to the Vatican report. Here's what the organization wrote: The entire membership of Roman Catholic Womenpriests-USA (RCWP) proudly stands in solidarity with the Leadership Conference of Women Religious and fully supports the actions that the LCWR will be taking in response to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith report. RCWP believes that as a matter of justice, the CDF mandate must be discussed openly and candidly with the LCWR membership. We will continue to pray with and for Pat Farrell, OSF, President of LCWR...

It is a simple story that our Lord tells here. A man who is preparing to leave on a journey entrusts his possessions to his servants. He distributes his wealth among three servants, apportioned to them on the basis of their abilities. To the first he entrusted five talents, to the second two talents, and to the third one talent. The first two servants quickly272 set to work with their master’s money. The third servant did not invest his master’s money at all; he dug a hole in the ground and buried his master’s money. When the master returned, the...

If Morgenstern [sic] and Rosner are to be believed, the American dream didn't die of old age; it was murdered and most of the fingerprints on the corpse come from Democratic insiders. Democratic power brokers stoked the housing bubble and turned a blind eye to the increasingly rampant corruption and incompetence at Fannie Mae and the associated predatory lenders who sheltered under its umbrella; core Democratic ideas may well be at fault. This is catnip to Republicans, arsenic to Dems. If Morgenson and Rosner are right, there is someone the American people can blame for our current economic woes and...

EXCERPT....Scharlott said he first became interested in the pregnancy hoax rumor after Palin was nominated as a vice-presidential candidate, and said he was fascinated that no one from McCain’s camp chose to rebut the rumor. In his paper, Scharlott says that the “oddness of the McCain’s campaign response to the fake birth rumors should have caused reporters, ostensibly skeptical by training and nature, to wonder if something was amiss.”

Think you know Sarah Palin? The former Alaska governor has been in the spotlight ever since John McCain named her as his running mate on Aug. 29, 2008. Yet, while practically everybody has an opinion about Palin, not all of those opinions are grounded in reality. Many of them are based more on a "Saturday Night Live" caricature than on the living, breathing, 46-year-old mother of five. The real Sarah Palin is a complex woman who has risen in no time from obscurity to the stratosphere of American politics, fusing celebrity and populism in novel ways. Now that she's laying...

K. remembers seeing Palin emerge and walk onto the stage, dressed in a sharp black suit, as the crowd in Ohio went wild. In Chicago, the Liberals around him cringed, as that excitement and energy reverberated through the large screens and smacked them in the face. K. will never forget two Liberal women, clutching each other, faces blanched, with true dread in their eyes. “What are we going to do now? She’s incredible. He can win now, with her. What are we going to do?”. “We need to destroy her. We need the media to destroy her”. “They need to...

The Associated Press is lost. It can’t understand what’s going on in America this year, and its hopeless attempts to come up with an explanation are leading it to indulge some of the year’s biggest losers in their predictable exercises in blame-deflection – mixed in, of course, with the AP’s usual propaganda disguised as news. All propaganda. I give you, Congressman (but not for long) Bob Inglis, Republican of South Carolina. Mr. Inglis was destroyed in his primary this year by local prosecutor Trey Gowdy. How badly destroyed? How about by 42 percentage points? That’s pretty destroyed. Now, many people...

One of three film versions of the classic Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein stage musical. Premiering in Washington's national Theatre in the winter of 1927, the show went on to continue its pre-Broadway tryout in a few East coast cities before finally making its Broadway debut at the Ziegfeld Theatre on 27 December, 1927. The original Broadway production was a huge success, playing over 500 performances. The show embarked on a nation-wide tour after it completed its Broadway run in 1929. Norma Terris, Broadway's original Magnolia Hawks, went off to Hollywood to make films and actress Irene Dunne took over...

ROBERT, La. - The Unified Area Command for the response to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill continues to advance multiple subsea options to contain and ultimately stop the flow of oil from the MC 252 well in the Gulf of Mexico. Overnight the Riser Insertion Tube Tool was successfully tested and inserted into the leaking riser, capturing some amounts of oil and gas. The oil was stored on board the Discoverer Enterprise drill ship 5,000 feet above on the water's surface, and natural gas was burned through a flare system on board the ship. The test was halted temporarily when...

BP has released an infographic showing the current state of the Relief Well, the “final solution” in resolving the Gulf Oil leak caused by the Deepwater Horizon, that shows the current progress (As of yesterday) as well as the proposed design of how they plan to intersect the previous pipe.

Many liberals know how inadequate they are, whether at hunting their own meat or throwing a baseball. It's generally the conservative they'll call on to build a fence, or rewire their house, or protect their families. Without conservatives, they are rendered absolutely helpless. This may be a hidden reason for their contempt for conservatives: they know that you can do stuff they can't; that you can survive when they'd croak; and that you don't need the government and they do. Many conservative women -- like the intrepid Sarah Palin -- are more capable, more powerful, yes, more a "man" than...

The attachment is a detailed description along with some incredible photographs of the Deepwater Horizon oil drilling platform that caught fire and sank in the Gulf of Mexico this week. The Deepwater Horizon was cutting edge technology and the disaster which claimed her is going to have extremely profound ecological and economic implications. I found it very interesting.

On all offshore oil rigs, there is one main switch for cutting off the flow of oil by closing a valve located on the ocean floor. Many rigs also have automatic systems, such as a "dead man" switch as a backup that is supposed to close the valve if it senses a catastrophic failure aboard the rig. Much still isn't known about what caused the problems in Deepwater Horizon's well, nearly a mile beneath the surface of the Gulf of Mexico. It went out of control, sending oil surging through pipes to the surface and causing a fire that ultimately...
