Department of Homeland Security is setting up a new board designed to counter misinformation related to homeland security, with a focus specifically on Russia and irregular migration. The board will be called the "Disinformation Governance Board, and will be headed by executive director Nina Jankowicz. Speaking with the House Appropriations DHS Subcommittee on Wednesday afternoon, DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said, "Our Undersecretary for Policy, Rob Silvers is co-chair with our Principal Deputy General Counsel, Jennifer Gaskell, in leading a just recently constituted misinformation disinformation governance board. So we're bringing — the goal is to bring the resources of the department...

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz leads Donald Trump by 2 points in a national NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll released Wednesday. Trump had held the top spot in the previous 31 consecutive national polls, according to RealClearPolitics, posting a double-digit lead in all but four. In last month's NBC poll, Trump held a 13-point lead over Cruz. The Texas senator has 28 percent support in the poll, with Trump at 26 percent. Marco Rubio follows, with 17 percent in the poll, which was conducted after Saturday's GOP debate. Cruz also leads Trump by 16 points in a head-to-head match-up. The...

Ah, what is a political commentator to do? The presidential campaign has not even gotten to the stage of the first voting in Iowa yet, and the whole thing is already a parade of fifteen or more clown cars. What am I supposed to do? I look into my tool chest, and I am already running low on colorful adjectives. And anything I might want to say about Trump will now just Palin comparison. So let us start at the beginning of this sad business, when John McCain first selected her to be his vice-presidential candidate. What has happened since...

One candidate on this national stage wants you to give him power. He tells you he is rich, so he must be smart. If you give him power he claims he will fix America, but there is another tradition in America. A tradition that believes that power corrupts, and that our goal should be not to gain power but to contain power or limit Presidential power. Our founding fathers feared centralization of power. They wrote the constitution to restrain the accumulation of power by the government. Trump is ignorant of this tradition, or worse yet, he is overtly opposed to...

I hear friends say Ted Cruz sounds like a preacher. They say he is using the gospel to round up voters. They don't like it and they are not sure if Ted is authentic. The Ted Cruz I know is the Ted Cruz who watched his sister consumed by a heroine addiction. She died of an overdose. The Ted Cruz I know is the Ted Cruz who maxed out his credit cards to rescue his sister’s son from that situation. The Ted Cruz I know is the Ted Cruz who, as a boy, was abandoned by his father and watched...

This film was commissioned in 1988 by Leonard Stern as the first of a series on celebrity businessmen and finished in 1991. Back then, the only way for a film to be seen was on television or in the theater. Donald threatened to sue any broadcaster or distributor that took on the film. In effect, it was suppressed. It was screened twice in back-to-back standing room only showings at the Bridgehampton Community House on July 3, 1991, the same day that Donald announced his engagement to Marla Maples. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz did not back down from his stance on immigration Wednesday night, after being confronted by a woman who asked if he would deport her, even though it was her parents who brought her to the United States illegally. During an event in Storm Lake, Iowa, Wednesday night, Ofelia Valdez, 30, told Cruz that although she was brought to the country illegally by her parents as a teen, she was able to retain residency due to President Barack Obama's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or "DREAM act." As a DACA holder myself, I am worried about...

We are experiencing something extraordinary in American politics: A man who has never held public office appears to have become a force of nature this election cycle, and he is achieving this, according to polls, with no small amount of support from evangelical Christians. The really puzzling thing is that Donald Trump defies every stereotype of a candidate you would typically expect Christians to vote for. How much does the average evangelical Christian supporting Trump know about his history? Very little, it would seem. Many are content to follow the no-nonsense persona, rather than dig into Trump's past record. Trump...

Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders are two candidates who happen to both have the populous support of their respective parties in the upcoming presidential primary elections. However different they may be, they also have many commonalities. Can you tell who said what? Quiz Many in the business community have argued for guest worker programs as the answer to the immigration issue. This concerns me very much. If you ask me about my views on the environment, on women's rights, on gay rights, I am liberal. I don't have a problem with that at all. Some of my best friends are...

George E. Pataki, the former three-term New York governor who launched a long-shot presidential bid that failed to catch fire, told his supporters Tuesday that he is suspending his campaign, two of Mr. Pataki's key backers said. <--snip-->

We are now five weeks out from the start of actual voting in Iowa. That being the case, and given that the field has been winnowed to fairly manageable proportions, I thought I should offer a few pointers to those observers who are having trouble tearing their eyes away from this slow-motion car-crash spectacle. A Cruz/Clinton Match-up? "Did she really just say that?" A Cruz/Clinton Match-up: “Did she really just say that?†1. The media and political consultants all treat polls as though they were video footage of a horse race, but they are not video footage of a horse...

Of all the mystical qualities that Trump supporters attribute to their candidate, the one I find most curious is that Trump is the "anti-corporatist" candidate. Trump? "Anti-corporatist"? Really? If there were a corporatist hall of fame, Trump's name should be emblazoned across the front in huge red letters, the way it is on his casinos. We are, after all, talking about a candidate who has just finished attacking his leading rival, Ted Cruz, for insufficient devotion to ethanol subsidies. This is not an aberration. Trump has rarely met a proposal for corporate welfare that he didn't love. Republicans have been...

To many, Donald Trump has our attention simply because he's the "anti-establishment" candidate. But to Dr. Ron Paul, that couldn’t be further from the truth. To the veteran and former congressman, the masses "are flocking" to Trump, hoping he's the one who can step up and solve all of their problems. Because of his over the top persona, many believe he challenges the status quo. That alone is enough to make many otherwise principled individuals believe that, perhaps, electing Trump could make things better. But would these claims stand the test of time? Ron Paul says no. 1778 By the United States in Congress assembled. A PROCLAMATION. It having pleased Almighty God, through the course of the present year, to bestow great and manifold mercies on the people of these United States; and it being the indispensable duty of all men gratefully to acknowledge their obligations to Him for benefits received: Resolved, That it be, and hereby is recommended to the legislative or executive authority of each of the said states, to appoint Wednesday, the 30th day of December next, to be observed as a day of public thanksgiving and praise, that all the people may, with...

HOUSTON, Texas – U.S. Sen. Cruz, R-Texas, today released the following statement regarding the arrest of Kentucky Clerk Kim Davis: “Today, judicial lawlessness crossed into judicial tyranny. Today, for the first time ever, the government arrested a Christian woman for living according to her faith. This is wrong. This is not America. “I stand with Kim Davis. Unequivocally. I stand with every American that the Obama Administration is trying to force to chose between honoring his or her faith or complying with a lawless court opinion. “In dissent, Chief Justice Roberts rightly observed that the Court’s marriage opinion has nothing...

An eight-mile convoy of pickups, motorcycles and cars wound through a central Florida town on Sunday in a show of support for the Confederate flag, as a backlash against its banishment from public landmarks across the South picks up steam. Horns blared and hundreds of the rebel flags fluttered as more than 1,500 vehicles and some 4,500 people turned out for the "Florida Southern Pride Ride" in Ocala, according to police estimates. Vehicles from states across the South and as far away as California participated. "That flag has a lot of different meanings to a lot of different people," said...

The LGBT community has a major issue with Texas Sen. Donna Campbell's proposed bill to add a religious liberties amendment to the state constitution, which critics say would essentially give business owners a license to discriminate against lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender people. <---snip--- "The 2013 measure was supported by the anti-LGBT group Texas Values and opposed by Equality Texas," Lone Star Q stated. "Texas already has a statute, the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, that provides strong protections for religious freedom. However, critics say Campbell's proposal would go much further than the Texas RFRA." "For example, while the RFRA says government...

A series of bills passed by Colorado Democrats in the state legislature hit a snag last week after a judge berated the lawmakers for ignoring the state’s constitution. “Writing an election law so clearly non-compliant with the state constitution,” Denver District Judge Robert McGahey said in a ruling, “I find that both sad and, frankly, shocking.” The judge’s rebuke was made in reference to a 126-page bill passed by the Democrats under the guise of “election reform,” but as the bill was being debated, it became apparent to some that the real purpose of the bill was to enable Democrats...

New York, NY (CFAM) — From the stage at the recent Women Deliver conference, former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s daughter Chelsea revealed that her much-admired maternal grandmother was the child of unwed teenage parents who “did not have access to services that are so crucial that Planned Parenthood helps provide.” Chelsea’s grandmother was born of an unintended pregnancy. And new research shows that her family is not alone in treasuring a person who – if Planned Parenthood had been successful – would not have been born. “Every child a wanted child” is the rallying cry of family planning...
