Reid’s “No” vote was procedural. It allows him to bring up the amendment again at a later time.

Delta - Respectfully, I don’t agree with the explanation of the Frankie Pentangeli issue, at least as far as the Feds keeping him sequestered. First, Frankie would have been sworn under oath before Congress, so even though “jeopardy” wasn’t an issue, even the worst defense attorney could entirely discredit his testimon in a subsequent trial. Further, even if he wasn’t sworn, Frankie would’ve been a totally useless witness later on. (I know this because I used to be a prosecutor). Once Frankie screwed up the Congressional testimony, he was utterly useless as any kind of witness later on, in any proceeding. In reality, had he done that he would’ve spent the rest of days in solitary.

I can understand why Michael wanted him dead, and basically struck the same bargain with him - die and we will take care of your family - as he did in the novel with the death row inmate who confessed to shooting McCluskey the police captain, thus getting Michael off the hook.

But this leads to another thing that didn’t make sense - after the Congressional hearing debacle the Feds would’ve never let Frankie Pentangeli have a private meeting with Tom Hagen (where Tom proposed the “deal” that led to Frankie committing suicide). Think about it, Tom was not Frankie’s attorney, but rather the attorney for the target of the investigation. No way in hell that happens.

Thanks Delta. That explanation makes sense. Another thing that always puzzled me was in Godfather II - why was Frankie Pentangeli still getting special treatment from the FBI after he didn’t rat out Mikey at the Senate hearing. Seems to me that after that happened, they’d let him rot in jail forever.

My favorite movie ever. Seen it about 100 times, but here’s a question I’ve never been able to answer:

How did Don Corleone “know it Barzini all along” (that killed Sonny) after the big meeting where him and Tattaliga hugged it out and the truce allowing drugs to be sold was made?

Thank God the internet wasn’t around back then, because the game against the Soviets was on tape delay. It wouldn’t have seemed the same knowing the outcome as you watched. If I recall correctly only the gold medal game was shown live, and I think the only reason I know that is because I was at a Christening that day, and all the men were watching it. That’s another thing most people forget - the game against the Soviets was not for the gold - but the game to get into the final where they beat Finland.

Another interesting misstep by the speechwriters - he mentioned the rumors but the only 2 he said were untrue were that Elin hit him and that he used PED’s. I think that by being so specific in the denials, he admits (by exclusion) that all the others are true. I understand he couldn’t respond to every single rumor out there, but I think he’d have been better served not mentioning the rumors at all, because it just leaves the door open to more questions. Although I can understand refuting the “Elin hit me” rumor b/c he has to defend her, and the PED stuff because that really goes to the heart of his image.

Please note that my last comment means I really care what he did. He’s a great golfer and that’s why I watch him, not because he’s a saint. I could care less what he does in his personal life, because that’s between him and his wife and family. I was just commenting on how bad I thought he did in the speech.

Damn, that was a terrible, robotic performance. He should fire the PR people he hired (assuming he followed their instructions). It was like the paper he was using said:
“To my friends, family, and fans..[count to 3, choke up, look down, count to 2, deep breath] I am SO sorry” and later on it read “Thank you [camera pans to Mom, Mom stands up, hug her for 30 seconds, go down the row, handshake, hug, exit stage right while putting hand on your head]

Yup, worlds colliding. Last night it was the guy who played Capt. Aceveda on “The Wire”. Tonight it’s “Herc” from “The Wire”, which was the greatest show ever. Can you imagine if Jack Bauer were teamed with Vic Mackey and Omar? Nobody and I mean nobody, would “F” with us.

I can't wait to vote this pompous, arrogant, good-for-nothing bozo out of office in November.

These snippets are just part of a larger article about him, but they show exactly what's wrong with the mindset that politicians get, especially ones that have been around forever and are used to people kissing their asses.

That’s what makes this fight so interesting. Manny is an amazing offensive fighter that hits from angles I’ve never seen and is quick and relentless. PBF on the other hand is one of the finest defensive fighters of our time (BHop is the other) who rarely gets hit and is quick enough to score in flurries. Which style prevails is what I hope to find out. Be warned however, the clash of these two styles, by the the best fighters going today, might not lead to the type of exciting bout we all
want to see. It might be like watching 2 Olympic caliber wrestlers going at it where the true greatness of what is going on is recognized by the people who truly understand the sport as opposed to the casual fan just tuninig in, to whom the action might seem “slow” or not the fireworks he’s been led to believe by the hype.

Got to feel bad for the father. He’s a true Muslim friend of America who did exactly what we need to be done - reporting terrorists within their ranks. To have reported his own son must have been awful, and then to have incompetents screw it up just makes it worse. Thank God for the father and the people on the flight who helped subdue the terrorist. America owes them a debt of gratitude

That’s easy enough: Manny Pacquiao has said he won’t allow blood to be drawn within a week before the bout. So naturally that’s what Floyd demanded, since he is desperate to avoid the fight.

When did Manny say that? If it was before the issue of the drug-testing was raised for this fight then that would lead me to believe PBF is ducking. However, if that reasoning came up after the issue was raised then I'm still suspicious, especially in light of Arum's eye-popping and bizarre quote of "I've got a Filipino fighter who is superstitious" as a reason Manny wouldn't agree to it.

"He won’t agree to have blood drawn immediately before the fight because he thinks it might affect his performance."

But wouldn't the same also be true of PBF? And on what does he base his belief? Is there medical evidence that blood testing before a fight affects performance? Don't get me wrong - I'd love to see Manny beat him but his refusal to agree to this type of testing raises questions in my mind about his past performances, especially jumping up so many weight classes. The only way to prove he has nothing to hide is to agree to the tests

The reason why Floyd Mayweather Jr. is doing it is he knows he would lose his unbeaten record to Manny Pacquiao.

That only makes sense if he knew Manny would refuse the testing.

No offense but that doesn’t make much sense, even moreso for a world class athlete who has to undergo blood tests before every fight. I don’t understand why it’s such big deal to Manny. If he’s got nothing to hide why not just say “OK, no problem” and use it is as extra motivation? But the big question is why do you walk away from $25-30 million and the only chance you’ll have to cement your legacy as one of the best - if not THE best of all time.

Still can’t figure why Manny won’t agree to the pre-fight testing under USADA regulations. And in this case I don’t think “public trust” matters. True fight fans already know who they want to win and no matter in all people love them or all people hate them, they still get the tens of millions of dollars - but only if they fight. Come on Manny- step up to the plate and show you have nothin to hide. Then come out and kick his ass.
